Canon 6D

Yes I agree that the articulating screen is very useful in fact I love the one I have with my Powershot G11.

But according to Mike Owens, Canon wanted to create a robust camera for an individual on the move. They wanted to enable a person to throw their camera into a bag and run to the next photo opportunity. With that in mind, the kind of camera they needed to develop was one with durability and sealing. Unfortunately an articulating screen could not be included for these reasons.

Articulated screen is very helpful for composition at ground level or over-the-head.

Composition is one of the core element in a great photo. It makes your photo one step higher from your friends shooting the same subject as you. I see myself using it if i had one!

Photo first, build quality second. hehehe. u can disagree with me, its alright:)

I can't disagree with you because I prefer the articulating screen too!

I was just quoting Mike Owens, a Canon employee, who explained the reasons why Canon did not include an articulating screen with the 6D. Again, I would have preferred if it had one too even at the expense of a more robust weather sealed camera. It just goes to show that with every camera implementation, there is give and take.

Nice photo BTW. :)

Same..the articulated screen helped me get insane shots from odd angles even with single hand with grip n my 70-300 l lens..even during the moon was easier late in the night..the moon is as high as 80° up..n if i didn't have the articulated screen..my neck would be repositioned..

Arti or not arti screen or not. Canon alway have good reason to support it.
May be just next further budget full frame have. Only canon marketing or r&d dept will know

IIRC there's no full frame camera that has arti screen yet, this could be the chance of canon to be first again, for some reason they didn't.. Like the other poster said, their R&D know the reason why.

While we are on the topic of the articulating screen, folks might wanna check out the EOS Remote app
Canon EOS Remote - Cameras - Canon UK

This could be a killer feature. yeah, I know, people are deriding Canon for putting Wi-Fi and GPS into the body. I had that initial thoughts too but after looking at the potential possibilities offered by EOS Remote, I think this could offer more than just an alternative to articulating screen. It now boils down to what features Canon would eventually include in this app and its implementation. Timelapse would be great. Instantaneous response would be even better (esp for shots like fireworks and 2-sec reviews), I can leave my intervalometer/remote at home and just rely on just my hp/tablet. The only worry is I would prefer the "feel" of holding onto my camera than my hp...

I eagerly await reviews on this function. If it works like it should, then its another plus for me to consider getting the 6D.

In my opinion the full frames so far are made to be weather resistant. Perhaps it is difficult but in my opinion, not impossible to make the contact point of the arti screen and the body to be well sealed. Just my two cents.

Looks very interesting... I wish that they had incorporated it into the 5D3.

They always wants you to buy more n more n more...

But why SD slot?

One thing I am quite interested to see is if they will supply the 24-105 as the kit lens or will they break from tradition and perhaps supply a 17-40. Or even the 70-200 f/4 IS.

Honestly it would really break from tradition if canon SG offered 2 options for kit lens. Perhaps either an L zoom or an L prime as well as one just body alone. Not sure if that has been done before though.

One can look at US websites that permit pre-ordering of the 6D. The only available kit lens is 24-105 f/4L

Australia and NZ offer 2 kit bundle versions for the 5D Mk. III. The pro kit is bundled with the 24-70 Mk. II of course at a higher price. There is the enthusiast kit which is the standard 24-105. Just because the US offers it does not mean that other markets cannot break from tradition.

Good to know.

BUT what do you think are the odds that SG will do that? Hahaha.

I have missed some shots with my 5D3 in low light situations because it could not focus and did not have a built in AF assist lamp. I fixed that by adding a ST-E2 remote flash trigger but it adds bulk and weight and it seems silly that I only use it for the AF assist beam.

I will jump on the Canon 6D in a second if it allows me to capture the same shots without an AF assist lamp.
