I dont know how other CSERS test AF, but for me i usually fire the shutter in a panning manner under ONE SHOT AF mode to see how many hits and misses. Usually the places that misses are low contrast areas, which cannot be helped. Low-light situations are another thing evidently, and YES that is one thing that i cant test in the Canon showroom. But is the premium of 600+ worth it from the 60D to the 7D? unless you really need it (or want it for that matter), then go for it. Upgraders from the xxxD and xxxxD should just get the 60D for the more balanced weight with heavier lenses and the top LCD which will prove useful in many situations..

Thanks for your feedback bro.... I guess I would need to go down one day and test out the 60D when in the shop..... AF is a problem... and 60F & 7D price diff are around $700++ base on the prices I asked yesterday.... and that is a big premium actually, and I suspect the 7D price could drop.... and so.... will just hang on and wait and see for the moment.... :)

I just am tired of the 400D shallow grip.... and will try to get the higher series with better grip....... It would sit well with my bigger lens definitely... :)

Im sick of my small grip too. Yup better to test it out thoroughly before purchase.

Keep us posted of your decision =D

Bro

how you fine the AF of the 60D... was it fast?? I am using a 400D... and having AF problem... in low light and white wall situation.... I doubt you test it in low light as vivo city Canon is brightly lit..

I suspect with Nikon release, Canon 60D prices will fall soon... and I suspect even 7D could be affected..... I guess will wait for 3-4 months then hoot.... as most bugs would be eliminated by then, if any....

lowlight depend on what u're focusing if u don't have anything(target) to focus at(totaly dark) no matter how many point of AF u have wont help, white wall is obviously u have to use manual, do u even read ur canon manual thoroughly --', but xxxD series will be beaten by xxD series's AF and the xxD series will be beaten by xD series's AF, just like the price :D

I also doubt that 7D price will be going down coz of 60D, coz it's not a direct compatitor and a big no on coz by nikon D7000 arrival(why? coz both brands have loyal follower :D), except if canon start throwing out 9D or 3D or 7Dmk2 :bsmilie:

Bro.. what cam u using???

500D man.. even with my batt grip i feel its very fake. Not solid for my liking. Just empty weight with the grip. Plus i've encountered many situations where i wanted to change settings fast but fumbled with my camera as the settings are EVERYWHERE. At least the xxD series has the top LCD which i personally find very useful.

I should have said it more specifically... a low contrast situation, like a plain table, etc.... I believe the cross type of sensor would have helped..... of course a xxD will be better than the other range, and the price are all different, and it would have been common knowledge... and that's why I am asking for how the improvement.... cos I never used a XXD before.... and can only ask for comparison till I got time to go and test it out myself.... some time next week....

7D price might not drop to stay competitive to D300s... and I just went the D7000 model preview... and the D7000 is better 60D in some areas, and only a 9D could counter D7000?? Who knows... but the consumer have much more option and choices now... and Sony and pentax will be driving a lot of price war... so who know what will happen next.... my 400D is going to be my main cam for a while... though it is like many years since.....

I also have the batt grip... and my finger digit will ache if I shoot over an hour.. I use hand strap only... so I do not hang around neck and when shooting, it can be tiring..... but the size is pretty much more compact... I think if you load with 2 batteries, it could be better???

But still, the design problem is the cam body shallow grip.... For ladies should be just ok... Or could there be a 9D???

just tried out the 60D today at vivo... is it just me, I find the placement of the buttons abit different from previous canon cams i used... its so different to locate them and quite troublesome to execute some simple steps like deleting a pic... the delete button is now located at the top left hand side of the cam...

Bro yes its true that the buttons has changed position. And that is so because of the vari screen. But the changes in position will be easy to get used to with time, so its not a big deal.

Just a question, how do you changed the function of the buttons on the top LCD? for models such as 7D and 50D, the buttons below the top LCD has 2 functions each right? how do you switch from one to the other? i tried many combinations but still cannot figure out. Can anyone help?

not a big deal ma?... its like asking a seasoned canon user to use left hand to write wor (right hander of course) hee... I have got friends who are reluctant to switch camp because of this...

I am guess nobody had a real opportunity to try the 60D with battery grip and see how reachable the new joystick D-pad is from the grip?

One thing that irritates me about 7D/grip is i have to re-grab the top grip to move the joystick to the correct focus point/area before holding the battery grip.

60D do not have any joy stick. Generally, good camera, nice form factor almost similar to my 40D and 5D except it's much lighter and feel is also very different. Apart from tiny differences, the 60D actually has too much features for me, but I like what I see on the LCD everytime I hit the shutter. I even tried it with my Contax 85f1.4 and Om 50f1.4, wonderful color rendition. Huge plus to me because I can change focusing screen and add a VF magnifier.

The joystick has been relocated as a D-pad within the control dial.

I was playing with a 60D yesterday and found the D-pad very useful. I use a joystick on my current cameras and didn't feel at a loss without it. The D-pad is very intuitive.

I also took a few photos with the D60 and found the IQ to be superb.

ANyone has any idea why Canon wants to use SD card instead of CF card for 60d? I thought CF card is better???

The comparision between Canon n Nikon will never end, just to relate mine experience.
Many many years ago I started off using a Canon film camera then followed by a Canon 450D.
One fine day I happened to view an album taken by a Nikon camera, I was so captivated by the colour.:bigeyes::bigeyes:
Did some research and found out that both system process colour differently
Now happily using Nikon. No regrets, never looked back.:)

I like the color rendition of the Nikon better too. But i realise that the 60D has the choice of custom white balance and you can even choose your color temperature. Not sure if it will help,

Nikon generally has a warmer color and sightly better noise control because of lower megapixels. But i was appalled at the arrangement of buttons, it doesnt have the appropriate buttons to change settings fast.Perhaps i haven used it well. The fact that i have to go the Nikon Service Centre to try the cameras with people breathing down my back is kinda deterring me. I cant even test it in peace. Want to change camp also cannot.

There are differences in colour rendition. Nikon's colours are more saturated and warm whereas Canons are more natural and real.

Both can be PP'd easily to achieve an individual look.

Your explanation of colour rendition is biased, its more of personal preference.
