hahaha.. i doubt the d7000 gonna come cheap. i'm getting 60d next month. =)

a little noob here but was reading quite alot about the 60d..
you guys talk about viewfinder but no one compare the viewfinder type of the 60d and 7d as to the 550d.. the pentaprism vs pentamirror thingy. not important?
thought it'll be nice to have a brighter viewfinder for manual focus. =)

Corrent me if i am wrong but isnt the 60D, 7D, 5Dm2 all pentaprism design already? Didnt bring it up since i thought they were all the same. IIRC only the rebel range is using the pentamirror design. And yes, the bright (and larger) vf on the 'pro' models are lovely!

Hi querty, I'm not commenting on image quality. The 60D doesn't mold to you hand as per the 5DII, 7D or the 50D the model it should have succeeded. The grip is also very thin and recessed. It just doesn't feel right, in my hands at least.

I would have preferred a magnesium body, however it has been made of plastic. That's not the deal breaker, the issue for me, aside from camera feel, is the lack of joystick and micro adjustment. The lack of micro adjustment shows the user that Canon was targeting with this camera.

I'm after a crop camera and currently in Japan the 50D is SGD $1,150 while the 7D is $1,850. Both of these cameras have micro adjustment.

Yes you're right blackreplica. All models above rebels are pentaprism. I just dont know why i cant appreciate the larger VF like you guys do..

Perhaps because you have bigger hands and require a bigger grip. The reason why Canon has made such radical changes this time is to cater to another group of people. The rest that prefer the old ergonomics can try their hands on the year-old 7D.

Nikon on the other hand, prefer to go chiong spec-wise. They are drawing the crowds to their newer model the D7000, while effectively destroying the d90 and d300 , perhaps even the d300s.

As you can see Canon (at least to me) is making the wiser move to diversify the market. Nikon in its desperate attempt, trying to entice new buyers will better specs which, honestly, most of them dont need. Canon will and is pushing its new model WITHOUT cannibalizing the rest of the models, rather giving the consumers more choice.

Again what i've mentioned is just my personal opinion. Take it with a pinch of salt.

you can have a feel of it at the canon vivocity. feels smaller.

Seems like most of the disappointment is because 60D is positioned between the 7D and the 550D, rather than a upgrade from 50D. Maybe they should have named it 600D instead of 60D...

I dont see how the 50D is not positioned between the 7D and 550D while the 60D is..

Positioned in between isnt it just the specs being in between the 2 cameras? I guess its just a figure of speech.

Maybe because 60D is released after 7D/550D but 50D was released before? It's weird to say something is positioned when it was released much earlier...if you know what i mean.

Yea, that's how i understand positioned in between to mean...specs are in between.

hey guys!

i seriously need some advice from you guys. i am about to get the canon 60d in the next couple of days but i have some lingering doubts. i'm not sure if its worth paying the extra $800 thereabouts for the canon 7d instead.

i intend to use my camera for events photography, as well as for hobby purposes. also, i'm not sure if i should allow the lack of auto focus micro adjustment in the 60d influence my choice in not getting it. so should i just go ahead with the 60d or fork out the extra cash for the 7d?

i have a tamron 17-50mm 2.8 lens which is my primary lens for now.

thanks ALOT guys!

cheers!

That would be a hard decision for me too. Both are fine cameras. With respect to the 60D, I would not worry too much about the lack of micro-adjust. The word on the street is that the IQ of the 60D is very good. Photos are sharp, colourful and contrasty. The 7D has great IQ too but it would take a steeper learning curve to use it to its full potential particularly with its advanced AF system.

Another way to look at it, would be the $800 you would save by buying the 60D. With the extra money, you could look at the BnS section of this forum and upgrade your primary lens to perhaps a Canon 17-55 or 15-85. If there are any front/back focusing issues, you can always take your camera and lens to the Canon Service Centre and have them calibrated.

Anyway just my thoughts. Good luck with your decision. I can't see how you could lose going with either camera but it does seem to make more sense to go with the 60D (IMHO).

I couldn't agree more :)

Just my own opinion... I was quite determined to upgrade to 550D until 60D comes along... and the price tag for the 60D is pretty attractive. Just $300-400 more from a 550D to 60D compared to $800 more for a 7D. For $300+ more, u get a adjustable screen, 9 cross type AF (I assume...), better body, faster FPS, additional flywheel, can wireless trigger flash etc. IMHO, I think it is a worthy upgrade from 1000d or those xxxD which are using SD cards. Maybe not so for 550D as the specification are quite similar to 60D. Another point is that it is heavier so it can balance my current 24-105mm...

Just my thoughts and I haven't got to touch the 60D yet... Have to go to the shop to have a feel before I make my final decision... hehe!

Is it adviseable for a 20D user switch to 60D?

hai, my 20D body is dying.... need to spend $$$ again

20D now giving me this problem.... hai...

I just looked at your images.... are those random white lines are created by the 20D?

Anyway, the 60D will be a great upgrade for you. You will notice a big difference in IQ, features and handling.

i intend to use my camera for events photography,
I own a 7D as my primary now, and having sold off my 450D, I was hoping the 60D can be a worthy successor as secondary cam. However, in trying out the AF yesterday, I observed the AF speed is significantly slower than 7D. That has casted a huge doubt over me.

If you are taking fast-moving events, the superior AF system of 7D may be for you. If your events are slower, calmer, you should be able to suffice with 60D. A factor to consider.
