ANyone has any idea why Canon wants to use SD card instead of CF card for 60d? I thought CF card is better???

Maybe the CF was better in the past but now having the advancement of technology like the nanotechnology, we cannot underestimate the future of SD cards...

SD cards that bundle with the cameras may not be that great, just gotta invest in better quality ones if performance is required.

There are differences in colour rendition. Nikon's colours are more saturated and warm whereas Canons are more natural and real.

Both can be PP'd easily to achieve an individual look.

Your explanation of colour rendition is biased, its more of personal preference.

This was a generalisation back in the film days.

With today's technology, the settings can be changed in camera itself or via computer software to give the desired colours

Had a touch on the 60D just now. Feels good and firm; not the toyish plastic feel of the 450D and similar tactile feel of 7D.

However after getting "spoilt" by 7D AF modes, 9-pt AF seems lacking. More importantly, AF appears significantly slower than 7D, and that might be a killer for me....

I used my own SD card and it seems Canon DPP 3.8.1 cannot read 60D's CR2 Raw format. hmmm.

Ergonomics = super crap.

I'm in Japan now and held it about 2 days ago. I'd rather go the 50D or 7D if going crop.

A comment like this is definitely biased and rubbish. I don't see why I should take this guy seriously .

I just ignore his comment... obviously... with only 8 post.. this could be some other camp fanboy....

I also played with the 60D at canon vivo a few days back.

I am a casual DSLR user with a 500D so dont take my opinions too seriously as they come from a very amateur point of view

Things that stood out for me:

1) The ergonomics were excellent. Much better than my 500D (of course). I have very large hands. I was surprised how good the grip felt in my hand
2) It was very lightweight. I sensed no loss of quality from the plastic outer shell.
3) I do not like the mode selector knob and delete button being on the top left. As a 500D user i am very used to being able to do EVERYTHING from changing modes, to reviewing, cycling through, then deleting pictures, all settings etc etc with just my right hand, while holding he camera. My left hand is always free. I seriously cant understand why this cant be done with the higher end bodies which force you to use both hands once you want to do certain things. But i do like the button layout on the 60D more than that of the 7D or 5Dm2 because more buttons are pushed to the right (due to lack of space on the left as a result of the flip-out screen)
4) The lcd picture quality is freaking amazing compared to my 500D and the pictures look great too. The flip out feature is not a big deal to me but i can definitely understand the appeal
5) Love the larger viewfinder compared to the 500D....but once i look through the 7D's and 5D's VF, nothing else comes close...lol
6) I like that it uses SD cards as opposed to CF
7) I seriously wish it had more AF points. 9 points seems very rebel-ish, although its great they are cross points

Overall i love the ergonomics, LCD + pic quality, and the fact that it uses SD cards, and well the top LCD. Which all makes sense since canon targeted their 60D to 500D users like myself. But would i buy it? Hard to say,but probably not. For me to throw the money down...i want the best and biggest viewfinder i can get: as close to 100% coverage and 1:1 magnification as humanly possible(to me this makes a massive difference). Which means for now, my next upgrade is still either the 7D (or 5Dm3 if it ever comes out, probably not the 5Dm2 though unless i get a really good deal because the LCD is starting to look a little outdated compared to the 7D/60D)

hi blackreplica from your reply it seems you like everything about the 60D except the viewfinder. But your final verdict suggests otherwise. Are you aware of the premium you are paying for the viewfinder alone (in your case of cos since you didnt list any other drawbacks other than the measley 9 AF points.). ? The 7D definitely will be superior to the 60D in many aspects, but i do urge you to consider carefully whether you need those features. That is of cos if you have a budget. If you got $$$ then anything goes.

I am very likely to go for the 60D as the 7D is way out of my budget and its pretty heavy. I think the 60D will balance my future 17-55 just fine=D The vari-screen and high iso performance seals the deal for me. Unlike many, the slightly smaller VF is not a deal breaker for me, since it includes a little more than what i see, and not a little LESS. haha.

Several "sample" photos taken by new owners of the 60D, are starting to appear on the web. The two most common comments that I've read from various users are:

1. Auto focus of the 60D is spot on.
2. IQ is very high.

Wow TS are you being swayed to buy too? =DD

You've got a keen eye hotchoco1ate! ;);)

I must admit that I didn't think highly of the 60D when it was announced. But after playing with it and viewing some of the sample shots, I've done a complete turn-around. Who am I to deny the truth?

Tack sharp focus.... great IQ.... I think that Canon may have a winner here.

Sorry guys u mention great iq... Isn't the cam using the same sensor as 550d and 7d?? So iq should be the same right??

True. I would think the same way too. However, photos that have been posted on the internet from various owners of the 60D, have proven its capabilities. Whether the IQ of these photos are the same or better than the 550D or 7D is debatable. Perhaps it could have something to do with the newer firmware of the 60D????

In addition.... and it may be early.... but one thing seems to be evident.... Canon has done its homework with the auto-focus system of the 60D. So far owners have been more than happy with the 60D's sharpness. The auto-focus issues that earlier copies of the 7D suffered from, do not seem to apply to the 60D.

Raydio it wasnt that hard to infer from the fact that you only displayed its good points  Anyway do wait till the pricing and availability of d7000 is out. I doubt the RRP will reduce but i cant say the same for street price.

Yes probably its using the same sensor, but these 2 cameras have been proven to have great IQ!! The IQ of the 550D is a huge jump over its predecessor so the same will be for the 50D to the 60D. Basically the only thing its lacking from the 50D is the AF micro adjust.

Hi there hotchocolate....yeah you are right i am definitely in the 60D supporters camp here...but my only idiosyncrasy is that i am a real viewfinder nut. The bigger the magnification, the better the coverage, the more i like it. Of course, like you say, you do pay a huge premium since better viewfinders are only found on much better (more expensive) models. But really all it took was for me to pick up a 500D/550D, then a 60D, then a 7D, and finally the 5Dm2 at vivo and look through their respective VFs to appreciate the difference. It just stands out so much to me that i cant possibly ignore it.

Unfortunately my funds are limited. Who knows, i might just cave in and pick up a 60D and live with the VF, i wouldnt rule it out. Its a great cam no matter what. Does anyone have links to the high ISO sample images of the 60D?

still contemplating should i get a batt grip for my 550D or just top up abit more get the 60D... sell my 550D.. headache headache.. lol...

a little noob here but was reading quite alot about the 60d..
you guys talk about viewfinder but no one compare the viewfinder type of the 60d and 7d as to the 550d.. the pentaprism vs pentamirror thingy. not important?
thought it'll be nice to have a brighter viewfinder for manual focus. =)

Well im not sure i can really appreciate the difference as it seems the same to me when i look through both viewfinders. For me the brighter viewfinder will help me during low light conditions, as im not a MF junkie. Anyways the only way to get a affordable 100% is to change camp to Nikon.. *cough* d7000 *cough*... jkjk. =D
