i would actually say the 60d is pretty much on par with the d7000....
just the way you look at it

The new d7000 makes the 60d feels obsolete before it is even on the shelf. Better af, better metering, larger 100% viewfinder, better fps, mg body, dual sd card slot, smaller dimension and apparently 1-2stop iso improvement over the old sensor which was already fantastic. All for just S$140 more and 25g heavier.

IMHO, canon totally got pwned.

anyone notice the price of 60D is out on Canon's web?

Canon Singapore has updated the 60D into their website, the price of the body is $1599 but I cant find the release date? Anyone has any idea when is it?

Yup Agreed! I prefer a lighter weight and now my 500D kinda outgrown me already since i yearn for more customizable functions and quick short cuts to the settings. Not to mention the articulating screen helps me take low angle shots easier. Btw is the focusing speed in live view improved? its really slow on my current body..

Still quite new to dslr so still exploring.

I bet you the Nikon D7000 will easily rival the Canon 1D4 in high ISO performance. Wanna wait for samples? :)

Then, all those pixelpeepers will really stop b***hing about high pixel density sensors.
I agree, all that I’ve read so far says that the D7000 has *almost* the same ISO performance as the Fullframe D700. Which is ahead of 12.3 APS-C cameras like the D300s.
Technology improves. Unfortunately Stereotypes take longer to catch up.

Wow, what is the way you’re looking at it? That both cameras seem on par?

Any possibility that the actual selling price of the 60D body be around $1.2k??

that price will be closed to 550D. hm... to me unlikely will happen.

I don't think any release date has been published, but I've asked a Canon representative and he told me that it will be released sometime in September (although he could not give me a specific date.... he didn't know). Release dates will vary from country to country.

Just called MScolor and was told that the 60D will be available in 2 days. S$1619 with 18-55 IS, 8gig SD plus bag.

Wow!!! In 2 days!!! That's amazing!!! If it turns out to be true, Canon would have delivered their 60D within a month of their announcement.... that's pretty good.

Any reports of the 60D at the Canon Showroom at VivoCity?

Hi, Yip, Nikon D7000 has a high learning curve, while 60D is simpler.

May i know why you made that remark? Better specs doesnt mean more sophisticated. If you meant user friendly then its a different story. Personally i feel Canon's menu systems and button positioning suits me better than Nikon.

I remember once i went to the IT show in June and happen to come across a D700 on display. I fiddled with it a full 15min and i couldnt even figure out simple things like white balance, aperture settings and exposure compensation. This just goes to say how different the systems are, or just that im super slow haha.

Anyway i did harbor that thought of what if i switch to nikon.. Then i figured it wont end. If i can switch once i might do so again. So whats the point of jumping ship cos of 1 model? Yes the d7000 might only be 25g heavier, but how many features do you use?

Personally i feel excessive af points can be a downside too. In the event you decide to use a specific AF point, you'll have to scroll through 39 points to get the one you want. Or you could reduce the AF points shown to just 11 - then wouldnt it be the same as the 60D? dual sd cards? are you a professional?
Continuous AF? Buying a DSLR to shoot videos?

Well the only thing is the high ISO performance which many have boasted to resemble the d700. However with the 60D using the new metering system and the ISO performance of the new 550D and 7D, i dont think i will have much complains =D

1599 for D60 is quite expensive, I think there definitly some people will jump to Nikon because of D7000. The specs are so attractive.
The newly added future of 60D is not expressive at all, I mean especially for those people who has used DSLR before.
NOw, waiting for the price of D7000, i think it will be bewteen 1700-2000.

Yes, I agree that there will be some that will jump ship because of the higher specs of the D7000.... but in end I believe that they will lose out. When Canon comes back with a higher spec camera, will they jump ship again???? When will it end???

Glass is more important than the body. When jumping ship, most are likely going to sell their glass at a loss to finance their new system. Over time, that can add up and become a very expensive habit. IMHO, it's best to stay with one system and be the best photographer you can be with the equipment you find in your hands. :)

Once 2nd hand market is seen with the 60D, at around 1200.. i will be one of the first to grab it =D

Once you've had a chance to play with it thoroughly, let us know how you like it.

With the 60D at $1200, 2nd hand, I wonder how low the 50D will go? I would think that it would hover around the $950 to $1050 range.

Yes, changing system is tedious and costly.
However, you think who will upgrade to 60D, of course, not 5D2 and 7D users. Most of them should be below 500d, or even 1000d. I do think this type of group will have lots of lens, most of them are using Kit lens, 50/1.8, or another one len.
if 60D really disappoint them, why not make a move? there is another scenario, if D7000 is quite close to 7D pricing. Canon users may stay in canon and buy 7D to upgrade. However, 60D is definitely a failure.
