I've always wondered what the difference was between "new member", "member" and "senior member". By the look of some posts, it certainly isn't intelligence!

EXACTLY! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Hey HotChocolate: I never noticed the Post Count until you mentioned it! This is the first time I've seen it. I guess with my post count, I am pretty low on the totem pole! Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about what others say or the comments they post. Some people are just negative, cutting and miserable by nature. Others are positive, supportive and encouraging.... put them all together and you've got a balanced forum!

hey hey, some of the seniors are very nice people... not all are bad eggs...

after gg shoot with some of them, you will know..

of course i agree that there are some who are very nasty to newcomers.. or people who ask to be spoonfed..
but not all the seniors are monsters la.. some are angels~!!

hmmm i do agree that the micro af thingy is useful, but i think its overrated.

If one only owns a SINGLE DSLR body, then micro AF adjustment is not important. In fact, I encourage owners of new cameras to send ALL their lenses + camera to the service center for calibration. In-camera adjustment can NEVER match what is provided by the service center (e.g., adjustment for different target distances, for zoom lenses etc).

I know CSC hates me for giving them so much work to do... :bsmilie: But hey, it's not my fault, it's just their factory QC issue...

However, if one owns multiple DSLR bodies, then micro AF adjustment becomes essential...

just realise 1 important issue on 60d. the top command dial has a locking system like the old film EOS5. it is a common problem that the EOS5 top command dial give way, hope the 60d will not suffer the same fate.

I think if the 60D is priced right, I'm sure many will want to get the 60D. I may consider getting the 60D myself. Of course like many I was a bit disappointed by the lack of magnesium body, but thinking about it again, a lighter body can be an advantage after a long period of use. The slower fps doesn't bother me as I don't do much action photography anyway.

Now just waiting for the actual launch to get the real hands on before making any final verdict.

Interesting how the 60D can start to grow on you! In the end, sales will dictate the success or failure of this camera. Honestly, I don't think Canon has anything to worry about.

Hi Enzeru21;

No offense meant. Just poking harmless fun.

Actually if you read the original post, nothing technically was said about senior members.... the statement was general in nature. I heartily agree in your words that "not all senior members are monsters la.. some are angels.!!" ..... in fact, I think I met both of them last week! ;)

Hi,

I'm sorry i sound noob but calibration is free?

If its under warranty, then yes. Otherwise you have to pay a labour cost. :)

Btw in my original post about people looking at post count, im not shooting the seniors/mods. Its more of the parrots who irk me. Parrots who dont have a mind of their own. Afraid to offend people, though its perfectly fine to critique constructively.

Those people who are still not convinced, ask yourself why those newbies who post under the "Critique Section" always get shot down. Though there are always some who provide encouragement, others use this chance to show off what they know (which are really trivial actually).

It is those who dare to criticize, yet provide useful comments at the end who counts. Not those who say things like "improve on your composition/model ugly/model a lot of leg hair" which are practically pointless unless you show them how to really improve.

To me, is a HomeRun.

As a 500D user, upgrade to 60D do not required me to change my collection of SD card, which I can share among all my IT stuff.

It has 3 things I always wanted
Weather-seal body
vari-angle LCD, was suprise to see such high res packed into it.
cross type AF.

Mirco AF adjust - not useful for me cause my all my lens only have one body to attach to.
magnesium alloy body - I do not need to use my cam to bush up someone, so without it I still OK.
I believe 60D 'Plastic body' withstand shock better than magnesium alloy body. Althought the body will be damage, but most of the shock will be adsorb by it, making its internal "organ" still working strong.

But that only good for us (xxxD) to upgrade, if I'm using xxD now, I think I will be disappointed too and go for xD.

I'm just really disappointed by the 60D, not that it's a bad piece of technology, Canon just made it in the opposite way I would prefer them too. Lowered fps, no af adjustments, removal of joystick, etc. I'm fine with the plastic body, it's not like I'm using my camera to block bullets or anything. It's just that I don't like taking videos with my camera and feel rather annoyed when people ask me to take videos for them because "I have a big camera", so I really don't like it when all the new additions are for video taking, tilt screen and what not. I wanted a more affordable version of 7D, something with high fps and more than 9 af points, and that joystick I've grown addicted to while using my friend's 50D. Now I'm kind of stuck with the 500D because I can't afford the leap to 7D, and I would be wasting lots of money on the 60D's video functions (which I personally hate btw) if I were to buy it. And the Basic+ mode ticks me off too. It's inviting more people to buy DSLRs for the sake of showing off and use it on full auto

Bottom line? I want to spend money on something focused solely on taking photos. Video should be an extremely small side benefit (I'd rather not have a video mode at all, so that people won't bother me to take videos, and to possibly reduce the cost), and not the focus of the camera, because I feel the very concept of DSLR is built around taking photos well and completely forgoing everything else

After considering for a while.... other than using SD card instead of CF.... this would be a good upgrade for me, a 400D user...

My prime complain with 400D is the slow AF and unable to lock focus with plain background, which I believe a 60D, with 9 pt cross AF point, it should do better...

Plastic is fine with me since I have used this plastic body for so many years, and I like the body sealing.....

I could waste my CF card, but no choice... I think I will spend more money on a 7D than a 60D... and the money can use for lens instead.....

The 60D Auto Focus Micro Lens Adjustment

The news about the 60D gets more and more interesting.....

Here is a quote from a review on the 60D from Digital Camera Info (digitalcamerainfo.com):

"The 60D also brings back the excellent functions from the 50D that improved the camera's compatibility with these lenses: the lens peripheral illumination correction function and the ability to make autofocus microadjustments. The 60D has built-in information for 20 lenses to facilitate the former, but you can add more information if you want to use a lens whose data isn't provided. Microadjustments can be made by ±20 points".

Has Canon updated the firmware to include AF MA? See the original review for yourself:

Ha, ha... Glad to see Canon caving in under pressure. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: Hope Digitalcamerainfo did not make a booboo here.

That's why competition from Sony and Nikon is good.

Canon however did handicap the electronic level in the 60D, which only works in landscape but NOT portrait mode. No big deal for most, I think.

The next hurdle the 60D needs to overcome is its price relative to Sony A55 and the upcoming Nikon D7000.

i doubt canon has much to worry. 60D is meant for people to upgrade from their rebels etc. so they would upgrade to a canon. the a55 does seem more advance, but it loses out in quite a lot of things, such as battery life, lens choices, viewfinder (electronic v optical), 9 cross points af v 15 point AF with 3 cross points, weather sealing.. etc.

for me, i rather go with the 60D than the a55, cos of the above features, the extra price difference is worth it imo.

when it will be released in Singapore? I am giving away my current set to my little brother :).. hoping to get 60D :)

can i be your brother too??

lol.. yes you can.. but not blood brother :) .. btw, i got the date from canonrumour, 22 sept 2010.. is the release date will be the same internationally? US and SG?

Actually, the Archille's heel of the Sony A55 is not in your list above.

The partial mirror in the A55 leads to GHOSTING. A MAJOR MAJOR flaw IMO. Enough for me to entirely dismiss this partial mirror technology.
