The 60D Auto Focus Micro Lens Adjustment

The news about the 60D gets more and more interesting.....

Here is a quote from a review on the 60D from Digital Camera Info (digitalcamerainfo.com):

"The 60D also brings back the excellent functions from the 50D that improved the camera's compatibility with these lenses: the lens peripheral illumination correction function and the ability to make autofocus microadjustments. The 60D has built-in information for 20 lenses to facilitate the former, but you can add more information if you want to use a lens whose data isn't provided. Microadjustments can be made by ±20 points".

Has Canon updated the firmware to include AF MA? See the original review for yourself:

Can head over to the Canon Rumors forum. Alot of members there asking Canon via online feedback to implement the microadjustments. Seems like it is working.

This should be a simple firmware upgrade so it is really up to Canon whether they want the 60D to have it or they want the feature to remain in their premium range of cameras.

like all things, once given, very diff to take back, 50D has it, if they take it away from 60D, many many users will not like it, its up to canon to evaluate the risk of losing customers to other brand.

Well said!

i got the date from canonrumour, 22 sept 2010.. is the release date will be the same internationally? US and SG?

I can remember when the 7D was released, I followed its releases around the world quite closely because I was interested in getting one.

The 7D was actually released to Asia first. This makes sense since the product is manufactured in Japan.

Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan were the first countries to report the availability of the 7D. Singapore and other countries in the region, not long after. About a week later reports of the 7D began to appear in North America. But the poor Europeans didn't see the 7D for about 2 to 3 weeks after its release in Asia.

I don't think that we can count on the same pattern for the 60D as it seems to be different for every product release. But I don't think that Singapore will have to wait too long after an initial release internationally.

sounds like the target cam for you is... 50D.
Not really. 50D is just without video. Many would argue the 550D and 60D and 7D sensors take better stills.

Actually, the Archille's heel of the Sony A55 is not in your list above.

The partial mirror in the A55 leads to GHOSTING. A MAJOR MAJOR flaw IMO. Enough for me to entirely dismiss this partial mirror technology.

Really ? I was looking forward to that A55 ...

This 60D doesn't seem so bad, but was looking for a small APSC camera with tilt screen and VF/EVF ...

For me, it is the articulated LCD screen that is most important in any digital camera not just for the convenience, but for the creativity it provides and also the ability to take shots that are impossible without it. Ever since I used one on a Powershot G3, I've been waiting for Canon to put it on their DSLR when 'live' view came along. If not for all the accumulated Canon accessories, I would have switched over to the Olympus DSLR for the same articulated LCD design. And I almost wanted to plunge into getting the Panasonic DMC-G2 when it came out this year. So the 60D seems like my wish came true after a VERY VERY VERY long wait!

I currently have and use:
- 350D DLSR mainly for super-tele shots with a Sigma 80~400mm, which won't benefit much from a having an articulated screen
- A Powershot A640 (a replacement for my previous Powershot G3, because newer G series dropped the articulated screens and even though came back recently in G11, isn't worth the money for it's lackluster performance in other areas) for almost all my shooting except when I need to zoom supe-tele or when I need the speed/ flash power that only a DSLR can provide (such as for events or action shots).
- A HFS-10 Full-HD video cam occasionally for video shooting.

So with the 60D, it will be able to replace all my 3 cameras!!!
And once I get one, I'm going to rid of my other cameras - no more carrying 3 cameras in one bag! Hurray!

That's why it's a home-run for me.

I'm also guessing that with the release of 60D, Canon would have already planned to terminate their Powershot G-series. I have long suspected they did not want to cannibalize their own G-series, so they are the only one among the leading DSLR manufacturers yet to put an articulated LCD on their DSLR, until now that is (shame on you Canon!!!). Nikon, Sony, Olympus have all started putting some kind of articulated screen on their DLSR ever since 'live' view became an integral part of DSLR.

Seems like the Ghosting effect is there. See the below review.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA55/AA55A4.HTM

But u would need to judge for yourself if the ghosting disadvantage outweighs the advantages of the video AF and so on. After all, the lenses and filters cause ghosting as well.

I'll be buying a new 60D when it hit the street for sure.:)

Anyone knows the street price, est?

I guess it will be around 1400?:dunno:

Amazon.com has made it available on pre-order for US$1099.00. Not sure how that will translate eventually to Singapore.... maybe SG$1500-$1600.

I voted great disappointment. Users of predecessor should agree the following.

It is not a direct replacement of 50D. Or I should say 50D is the last one and very best in xxD line. First of all, the layout of the shortcut buttons are remove, almost all. U no more enjoy the luxury of accessing to those essential and crucial functions. As a prosumer or intermediate user. I feel this decision is bad. Although it has better specs but so what? Its not big deal! We are more concern on the preformance that can help us for different shooting situation. I'm always feel proud to carry my 50D and now no more. Cos the successor is clearly for consumer with extra cash and look more stylo milo when cross sling the camera like handbag. Ugly! When I see the miserable SD card door on a big body, i almost go crazy. There are thousand of reason why CF card is still survive these days. I will never switch to body using sd card. If Canon gg to do that on next prosumer body like 7D, i will seriously consider to change system.

I do understand your grievance regarding the new xxD model. However, i feel 40D performs better than the 50D in terms of IQ, with the only downside of it using a DIGIC 3 processor. Anyways, the market cannot cater to everyone. If you feel it sucks, by all means switch to a 7D. No one is forcing you to take the new camera. Okay so im using a 500D and i dont see how a SD is inferior to the CF other than its writing speed for burst rate. I need good IQ pictures and its better metering and ISO capabilities.

I heard that the 60D is less customizable than the 50D, but it comes with the creative filters that i think i can play with. Its becoming more of a highly highly upgraded compact with all its features, like the 300HS, without the slow mo movie mode of course. But so what? I am totally in sync with the swivel screen and plastic body (read lighter weight).

And what is that talk about slinging like handbag bro? This camera has special straps? Im using the R strap now so its gay according to you? Oh ya please name a thousand reasons why CF cards survive i'd like to hear even 10.

Please dont make such shallow biased remarks that make you sound so juvenile thank you. By all means change systems please. Dont expect a new model or gadget to please everyone. What a simpleton.

Gross overreaction much?

What bearing does the 60D have on you feeling bad about your 50D?
