i like:thumbsup:
viewfinder bigger than 50d
it has a pentaprism!!, i thought canon may have down graded it to pentamirror
all 9 af point are cross sensor
electronic leveling
built-in flash to wirelessly remote control other Canon wireless EX flashes
1/8,000sec max shutter speed
1/250sec syn speed
vignetting correction
swivel lcd
wind cut filter function
autofocus during movie recording

not confident:think:
the frame is aluminum and polycarbonate enhanced with glass fiber

how does it affect the out put:dunno:
the body is made of a mixture of ABS resin, polycarbonate resin, and polycarbonate resin with a special conductive fiber, presumably for EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding. why need shielding?

dont like:thumbsd:
continuous autofocus isn't available during movie recording
lacks the Lens AF Microadjustment custom function

question
if user dont need to edit the movie cilps, how easy it is to burn a dvd direct?
is canon giving basic video editing software?

Lets hope local kit will include EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS
i doubt they will have such a kit, but some camera shops do offer to sell body plus lens of your choice as a 'kit'. i remember the last time i was buying camera, someone told me that a camera shop offer him 550D + tammy 17-50 'kit' for a cheaper price than if u were to buy both seperately.

go for anything that u think u need. dont just get because it has better features. No point buying 60D if u are going to shoot in auto mode only (example)

i'm wondering if 60D will appear in Canon PPP... Emm

60D is a disappointment as compared to previous XXD models. Save the money and go for 550D better..... :(

Seriously I am curious about the responding time in term of capturing and reviewing of images with 60D....the xxD used to be using the CF which is suppose to provide better writing and reading speed....so will the SD slow down the process? And is it the cause of lower fps?

Contrary to many users, i feel the 60D is perfect for people like myself.

First of all, im a 500D user. Meaning im used to sharing my SD cards with my s90 and 500D. so the 60D using SD cards is a plus.

Secondly, flip screen. Always loved to take low-angle, close to floor shots but 80% missing composition cos i cant estimate well what is on the frame.

Thirdly, it is 80g lighter than its predecessors, which doesnt seem much now but it helps a whole lot when carrying this body and heavy lenses around.

Fourthly, 7D and 550D sensor with 9 cross focusing points. Honestly i dont know how effective is the cross points, but will they only respond to a 2.8 or faster lens AND using a 2.8 or faster aperture?

The lack of joystick doesnt bother me at all as im used to not having it anyway, so i wont be poisoned. I dont know if any of u realise this, but the PLAY button is in an excellent position, similar to the 500D.

It is too much of hassle for me to change settings WHILE looking at the LCD so the top screen with dedicated buttons will definitely help.

Contrary to the 50D, the 60D has been "dumbed down" in size, excellent for medium hands like mind. The 500D feels a little too toyish because the handling without the grip is lacking.

No magnesium body? Who cares? I rather it be lighter than compare something like that because i think many of the CSERS here would "rather" have the magnesium body to boast, and since a lot of us are hobbyists, i dont see how rugged can your DSLR be. I did mention MOST, so there are definitely exceptions.

Finally, please dont parrot others if you dont mean it. I do realise many people here will first "seek" the opinion of moderators or senior members, and mimic their opinions.

( not just this thread btw. Especially threads which people feature their works, and the first thing people see before commenting is not the picture itself, but the TS's POST COUNT. If low post count, then "i think your white balance off/composition sucks/my grandama can shoot better (jk)" but if a senior member or a high post count user posts similar pictures they'll say " good job!/what lens you using/very nice!/model very chio. Why must people be like that? Sometimes i think showing the postcount can be a very bad judgement of a person's skill, and the gear that some people post. Why have to tell people what you use? ) Okay back to the topic.

Seriously i dont believe a new model like the 60D can be under so much flak. Shouldnt the opinions be 50/50 at least? I was also disappointed with this model at first, but after doing some research, how many of the features do i really need?

Many have commented no micro af function like the 7D, which is kinda obvious, otherwise who would buy the higher end model right? And its only the minority of canon lenses that might have f/b focusing problem, so its really no biggie. People really like to sensationalize things.

"hey that dude has micro af sia!" *thinks to himself "what the heck is that anyway?* : next sentence " i also want!! 60D have anot?? "

So, my answer to the TS question : HOMERUN!!

Wow...HotChocolate...you sound really HOT like your nick :P
Relax man.....have an ice chocolate ;)

Photography is part of art and art is basically subjective...whether it is copied or originality, it is always a good reference point for improvement,so have to be open minded for critics.

I do agree with you that many CSers are too critical with things....in fact from the posted responds, I can see many of them have fallen into the trap laid by Canon to buy the better system if they are not keen with the 60D. Canon is the winner...every sales count regardless the lousiest or best camera. I believe it is the consumer like us to decide whether we want to be the winner or loser but ultimately everyone will want to be a winner.

Thats my thought lah....:embrass: I am considering the 60D, just looking forward to have better focusing as compared to my 400D. I need faster focusing...

So, my answer to the TS question : HOMERUN!!

You bring up a lot of good points and I agree with most. The more I see and "absorb" the features of the new 60D the more I am beginning to like it. Like you, my first reaction was one of disappointment but now I am warming up to it. I think that the 60D will be universally accepted over time.

I can still remember the huge negative reaction of the 50D when it came out in the market. People would talk about the 50D having more noise than the 40D, worse IQ and less sharpness. But now the 50D is universally accepted and many think better than the 60D (feature for feature). Of course, that can be debated.

But as much as I like the 60D, one thing that I am still having a hard time with is the lack of micro lens adjustment. Perhaps very few use it, but when you have a front or back focusing lens, it is an indispensable tool. Can we live without?...... yes, just as much as we can live without a car, or a refrigerator, or even a toilet. But once we get used to these "tools", they are very difficult to live without. If fact, I think that "ALL" DSLR's should have the micro-adjust feature, even the xxxD series.

I predict that Canon well re-implement the micro-adjust feature in the xxD series, starting with the 70D. There has been too much negative reaction for Canon to ignore it. Time will tell if my prediction comes true. But regardless of the micro-adjust feature, I still feel that the 60D is a solid and capable camera.

hmmm i do agree that the micro af thingy is useful, but i think its overrated.

Lens softness can be because you are shooting wide open, or just that you got a lemon. However if you are not using lenses that are prone to QC problems like the sigma 30 1.4mm, it should not be too much of a concern.

Once again it is budget vs needs. If you feel its an indespensible feature then go for it. It will cost you an extra 700 dollars though (assuming the body is retailing at 1400SGD)

bottom line? Dont allow the BBB virus to get to you. If its important for you, the 700SGD can be saved from eating less high end restaurants or less movies. haha.
;p;p

Hey HotChocolate: I never noticed the Post Count until you mentioned it! This is the first time I've seen it. I guess with my post count, I am pretty low on the totem pole! Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about what others say or the comments they post. Some people are just negative, cutting and miserable by nature. Others are positive, supportive and encouraging.... put them all together and you've got a balanced forum!

I've always wondered what the difference was between "new member", "member" and "senior member". By the look of some posts, it certainly isn't intelligence!

The microadjustment is useful if you have third party lenses since those are the ones with frequent AF problems. Anyway, this feature is a software feature that can be easily added with a firmware update so there is hope that the 60D will end up having it anyway.

The cross focusing points will be used as long as you are using a lens with a maximum aperture of f2.8 or faster. Does not matter if you stop down or not since the camera will focus with the aperture wide open.

There is hope!.... this is really good news!

thanks for the clarification! 60D please be packaged with the 17-55mm!!!
