so
body -D200
lense -AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED [i am not sure if this is good/ex but i prefer wide to zoom...]
-AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G [is this the one with the D70s kit?]
flash -sb800
dry cabinet - not sure? hmmm [please reccomend]
like that can last me how long? of cos it is logical to start with D70s and slowly learn up.... but there isnt anything wrong starting with D200 right?![]()
rahul said:You should be aware that D200 is too uncompromising in capturing details. It will show up any deficiencies in the lens you use or your technique clearly. You would need to invest in top end lenses to pair up with a D200 and get your technique right. Otherwise you would be disappointed with the results.
Considering this, you might be better of starting off with a used D70, and pair it with A+ rated lenses. This combo has potential for giving you excellent results if you expose/focus correctly. Basically you will be the weakest link. Once you work with this combo long enough, you will come to a point where you will outgrow your camera. Then you will be ready to upgrade to a better body. Who knows by that time you have even more options.
So dont invest heavily on a body, invest on lenses, because they will last. Down the line if you find photography is not your cup of tea, you can always sell off the lenses with little loss.

It's not like a film body where you just change different film and you get different results and the lab process your negatives. The technology is stuck in the body and if you get a problematic body, the flaws will be stuck to every picture. Nothing too serious to worry about but now the post processing will be done by yourself.

Why would you recommend that he buy a used D100 in your first paragraph and then write "if you get a problematic body, the flaws will be stuck to every picture" in your next?

i think my thoughts overlapped and I didn't do a good job typing it out.Tetrode said:I don't see why you can't get serious with photography with a D70/s or even a D50.
You've hit the point on the nail when you say that the technology is stuck with the body and bec technology changes so quickly, the difference in price between the D70s and the high premium of the D200 would be better invested in good glass which doesn't depreciate in value so quickly.

I don't get you. I've never got myself into any s**t with Nikon.Zenten said:It's been quite a while ....... but it looks like YYK is getting himself into deep s**t again .......... :bsmilie:

serial_lain said:i think it has been said many times before that the principle behind photography is the skill and eye of the photographer and that the camera and lens is but a tool to help achieve it. When buying a new camera it is often easy to get carried away with the latest models and technology especially if one is new to it. It would be safer, as many have advised to start with something basic, master it, and then move on to having a more advanced camera body because then you know how to properly utilise its features..
no point getting something so advanced just so people will look and go 'wow.. this guy is pro, look at his big camera and lens'.. the end result photograph is what counts.. no amount of camera resolution and superb white balance and sharp autofocussing will make up for bad composition and angle
just some thoughts!

AF-S Micro 105/2.8G IF-ED VR?Tetrode said:The only things I don't like about it is that it is DX and a G lens but what new Nikkor lens isn't one these days.

Nope.. Won't be wierd at all. I'm using that combi most of the time and I find it very convenient. I don't use the SB800 very often though, I like to shoot with ambient light and having VR is quite useful for that.slooow said:D200 - $2700

Doesn't matter. Just don't use it on FM2 or F3 or anything older than that.Tetrode said:Beep! It's still a G lens...:bsmilie:
