may i know what will be a decent-complete system be?
As much as 10 to $20K.

body lense flash and and?:)
Body will set u back a thousand or two, good lenses as well, flash will set u back at least $500.

all i know is the "burst rate" [not sure the correct term] for D200 is faster and the AUTO FOCUS is better also...
Yes, burst rate is faster, auto focus is better. But ARE U ABLE TO LEVERAGE THOSE TO UR ADVANTAGE?

in what ways is D70S inferior to D200?
Both cameras I see are equally as good. What matters is ur skill. U dun have the skill to manipulate the images, u can go for a D2X and running all ur shots off green-box mode and u'll never be able to churn out the spirit & life in every photo.

Suggest u save the money. Get a D50 and slowly explore. Or get a Coolpix 8500 Prosumer level and slowly play frm there. Will save u tons.

Ultimately, I think "slooow" has to know what his immediate needs are. It's not easy, of course, and that's why he is seeking assistance / opinions in these forums. I found that out the hard way or I'm assuming I have found out... whatever.

I think the solution is not as simple as just buying the best or the latest or starting from the very basic. Any combination of body/lens/etc can be both right or wrong in the hands of the photographer.

Perhaps, "sloow" should enlighten us further on his area of interest ?

Hhmmm... sorry. It seems that on the post #39, you mentioned something about wedding? Perhaps the experts here could enlighten you (and us) further?

Sorry, D200 and D2X does not have the green mode. :)

D200 no green box?

Well, I guess that settles pretty much for sloow though. He can go for the D70s or D50 for learning since he's on a budget. :)

of these two, which should i get? what are the pros and cons?

D70s best of the low end
D200 worst of the top end?

correct or not?

D70s -> mini
D200 -> BMW

So what are their pro and cons???

BTW, where did you get the idea that D200 is the worst of the top end?

Yup.. No green camera on the D200. But the P mode is always available though it doesn't pop the flash up for you when the scene is not bright enough. I didn't even care about the green box until my brother was looking for it on the D200 after playing with it on the D70s.

this is what i hate about normal compact cameras... at weddings, people go "yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm seng!" at the end of the "seng" then i can focus in time for them to drink... i missed everything and worst of all, the pic is super dark.... really like to know if D200 AF is fast... and if D70s AF is fast enough also...

Don't worry, the D70 CAM900 shouldn't disappoint you. I have used it for S.League night match too.

6mp and 4mp are just 50% difference. not that much.
I should remember this and quote you on this... ;)

i think it has been said many times before that the principle behind photography is the skill and eye of the photographer and that the camera and lens is but a tool to help achieve it. When buying a new camera it is often easy to get carried away with the latest models and technology especially if one is new to it. It would be safer, as many have advised to start with something basic, master it, and then move on to having a more advanced camera body because then you know how to properly utilise its features..

no point getting something so advanced just so people will look and go 'wow.. this guy is pro, look at his big camera and lens'.. the end result photograph is what counts.. no amount of camera resolution and superb white balance and sharp autofocussing will make up for bad composition and angle

just some thoughts!
This has been repeated over and over. Look at what Thom Hogan uses to shoot: D50, D70, D1x, D2H D2x. On his site, you can't tell the difference ;)

Try chasing an eagle with it using a f/5.6 lens.. :(

I'm sure nobody wants to buy a new computer after buying a new camera simply becos the files are too huge for the older system to post-process. :(

Not everyone owns dualie processors even though they can afford 10MP cameras. :bsmilie:

Yeah. I shot for a friend's wedding using D2X and D70s and gave him all the files to send for printing himself. When I visited him and he showed me the 4R prints, I can't even tell or recall which picture was shot with D2X or D70s from the quality of the images. The only telltale sign was the angle of the lens I used.

thank you all...

so am i right to say every function found on d200 can be found on d70s? except for slower respond rate, nothing much different?

for example, the qual iso w/b on top of d200 if found on the back [beside the lcd] on d70s?

D200 offers "3D Color Matrix Metering II" which will produce better image than D70. You will be happier with the colours. The rest of the features in D200 will depend on your usage.

The meter has nothing to do with producing better images. It is the dude behind the VF and his knowledge of lighting that determines the image. Meters are just tools.

Did I advocate getting D200? I haven't say which one he should get or not get. I just presented facts and was just reiterating the point Watcher was trying to bring across... :(

Opps! my sincere apologies. I got mixed up with who wrote/said what. You didn't advocate getting the D200, it was someone else. :embrass:
