this is what i hate about normal compact cameras... at weddings, people go "yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm seng!" at the end of the "seng" then i can focus in time for them to drink... i missed everything and worst of all, the pic is super dark.... really like to know if D200 AF is fast... and if D70s AF is fast enough also...
There is always a D2X or D2Hs, if you "think" that is not fast enough.

Don't worry too much, just get a camera body and start to shoot.(you will know what is fast by then)

thanks for following my thread bro... appreciate it...

btw the way, when you say "it", are you referring to D200 or D70s?

Quote=sloow
i know it is a 10mp but the sensor size is about the same right? will the 10mp be grainy? and super clear at 6mp? like D70s is super clear at 6mp?

about the AF, i also know it is better... newer higher spec... but how big is the difference? that i cant really understand...

Hi,

Consider the best system that your budget will allow. Do not forget to factor the other accessories to your budget (flash, lenses etc). If you get good enough you will not keep on thinking of upgrading this and upgrading that, which will lead to higher cost eventually.

The D200 is a dream to use and produces amazing results. Am very satisfied with it. Very fast and effective camera. Standard of build and finish is outstanding. Of course if you have a big budget, you may want to consider the D2X (considered this but for what I do, it is overkill and too expensive for me, though very tempting indeed). D70s is very capable as well. Do a search on the www, you will get more feedback and reviews than you will have time to read....
thanks

if you have the budget go for newer tech - D200

it will take a longer time to be outdated
what more you also need to consider you "ego"
you know the "mine is bigger than yours" thing

of these two, which should i get? what are the pros and cons?

D70s best of the low end
D200 worst of the top end?

correct or not?
D70s - pro:cheaper, lighter, handier, longer battery life, IR remote receiver built in; cons: 6mp (already as good as a 16base film scan) slower AF, smaller viewfinder, slower continuous shutter (do you need that?), smaller LCD, mirror vibration can be felt...

D200 - pro: 10mp, generally faster, larger viewfinder, larger LCD, less mirror vibration; cons: battery also drain faster unless the MB-D200 is used, heavier, bulkier (even more with the MB-D200), can buy you 2 D70s bodies...

You decide yourself. :)

Here is just my 2cents worth - if you need to ask, then, the D70s is largely enough for most amateurs. Just remember that it is the photog that makes the pic and not the cam. And of course, the lens plays a big role.

But if budget is not an issue, by all means go for the D200, the only drawback is it is just a little heavier. As many has said, the money can be made better use of with better or more lenses or other accessories.

IMO, the D200 is for those who know what they want and what they miss in their current camera.

Although I would use the D2X and/or D200 on assignments, I largely use D70s for everyday kind of shots.

because its sufficient:thumbsup:

Sigh people never understand that everybody's usage is very different...

Correct. Get a D70s with the kit and learn the basics. Coz exposure, metering and post processing already is a lot of learn. Not to mention the many different functions that is available on the D200.

Start simple.

Thinking of getting a D200 for a friend as a gift, could you share with me what is "D200 worst of the top end"?

Thanks

WOW, can I be you friend......

Can, but must go for ops first in Thailand/Korea then let us verify with the D200/D70s. ;)

think i will save money for D200 and buy an "okie" lense first

what other things are "must buy"? like dry cabinet and others? do advice me...

D200 tickles me more than D70s....

Dry cabinet is a must have don't save on it. :)

Depends on your liking and usage, example I often take landscape so get wide angle lens then I switch to macro and planning to get the latest 105mm/macro.

If you do indoor than a SB800/cable release etc maybe needed.
If you like to shoot bird then a 300mm and above maybe needed.
YMMV
Last I have to quote from espn BBB, MTL. ;)

Get the D200 only if you have a cache of old MF lenses you can use or if you like using the aperture ring on your AF-D lenses. Otherwise, Digital cameras are like computers, they are worth very little only a few years down the track (unlike some film cameras which can actually increase in value). No point owning a top of the line camera when you can't make full use of all it's functionality.

Just repeating what others have already said - Buy what you can afford now and upgrade when you have honed your skills and can make use of the added functionality of a better camera. Spend the money saved on overseas trips and better glass. Nice pics taken on your trips will bring you more satisfaction than showing off your wiz-bang camera....well, for most people anyway.

Typical newbie (mis)judgement/thinking.:nono:

Not casting aspersions at anyone but I think Philip Greenspun (founder/creator of photo.net) sums it up nicely with his quote after giving advice on what you should do and avoid when buying a camera.

"If after reading this, you are still tempted to buy an expensive Nikon F100 body and cheap Tamron 28-200 zoom lens, keep in mind that you could make exactly the same public statement at a $1200 savings. Just buy a white T-shirt and a black laundry marker. Use the marker to write "I'm a dickless yuppie" on the front."

:) understooded...

so

body -D200

lense -AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED [i am not sure if this is good/ex but i prefer wide to zoom...]
-AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G [is this the one with the D70s kit?]

flash -sb800

dry cabinet - not sure? hmmm [please reccomend]

like that can last me how long? of cos it is logical to start with D70s and slowly learn up.... but there isnt anything wrong starting with D200 right?:)

get the 18-70 for wat?:dunno:

theres been numerous reports of lemons amongst ppl who bought the 17-55.

17-55 goes for ~$2100

consider tt getting the d70s instead of d200 and topping up a few hundred will enable u to get the 70-200vr as well:think:

Hmm....comparing a D70 to D2Hs...what print sizes are both good up to? Considering one is 6mp and 4mp. If one doing editing prior to printing then which one more advisable to go for?
