Doc, if only it were as simple. This simple proposition is a manifestation of the phenomenon of Clubsnap earning the infamour reputation of being the hunting ground for free and under-cutter's market for photography. You may say it's a willing buyers and sellers market, but such a phenomenon does have negative repurcussions on photography in Singapore, if you're willing to adopt a global perspective of this issue and see beyond one case..I see a lot of unnecessary sarcasms here towards the TS.
How much she had budgetted for other things is really none of anybody's business.
She made a simple proposition to get a photographer who is willing to cover her wedding for $200.00.
If any photographer thinks that this is below their rate and "self-worth", then do not take up this offer.
Leave it to others who are willing, for whatever reasons, to take up this offer.

Hmmm very unfortunate that Clubsnap is known as a place where people can get budget photographers. I think these people are misinformed.
How about we educate instead of insult? I think this can resolve some problems...

Well, simply because, this current phase will be a passing one. And when it passes, the standard of photography will not be better off. The prospects of professional photography will not be enticing for anyone who aspires to be a full-timer (think sports, think arts) for starters. This will be a passing phase by the sheer fact that the amount offered by exploiters, sometimes nothing, is insufficient to cover to the cost of the service provided. But desperate seekers who cannot see beyond the immediate assignments at hand will grab at them until they realise otherwise, and give up altogether.I am afraid I do see things as simply as that.
What is wrong about people going around looking for the cheapest photographer they can find?
Photographers go to different shops, places, countries to look for the cheapest price, and that is OK? And when a client tries to look for the cheapest photographer, that is not OK?
What negative repercussions do such "phenomenon" have on photography in Singapore?
It is precisely because of a global perspective that I do not see this as a problem.
The problem only exists to those who felt threatened because of potential business being taken away elsewhere. The strength of such market economies such as willing sellers and willing buyers, demand and supply, can only lead to better and higher quality services. You do not necessarily have to drop your price (although sometimes you may have to), but you will have to show that you will really give value-for money.
There's no right or wrong is this issue. Merely different perspectives. Just as much as one side cannot see the sarcasm, the other side cannot tolerate the exploitation, which the other party didn't see exist.
 That sums up everything here. OK. I think the thread can end here?
Arguing with each other also kinda makes Clubsnap look bad, no?

I've seen very talented photographers who tried to take up a career in photography but starting off freelancing, then give up on photography altogether. And there are many I'm talking about.
I'm sorry we cannot agree on this issue. There's no right or wrong is this issue. Merely different perspectives. Just as much as one side cannot see the sarcasm, the other side cannot tolerate the exploitation, which the other party didn't see exist.
Well, not exactly different things. Because it's not all "pro" vs "non-pros". But you're right about what you said about the ideal attitude of pros. But we're digressing.Ken, we appear to be talking about different things.
You are approaching this issue from the perspective of a professional photographer. As I mentioned, the price is for the professionals to maintain. Nobody needs to drop their price. But you will have to improve your products and services to persuade the clients that it is to their interest to get the services of such professionals, even though the price is higher.
But there will always be those whose primary concern is not quality, but price. Why take issues with these? It is their perogative to chose what they want.
Professionals stick to their standing as true professionals.
And I do feel it is a shame if the standard of one's photography is dependent on how much one is paid. (I am not talking about expensive albums versus cheap albums etc)
On bridal consumer view, CS has a good reputation of getting cheap (may be good as well) photographers :bsmilie:Somehow clubsnap already has a rather bad reputation already... oh well.
