Bad experience with Pgs on step ladders

Whoops, you missed the boat on this one. Do read carefully about the unhappiness TS was talkin about, and it's definitely nothing to do with competing for the front-row vantage points vis-a-vis other photographers.

2nd dat!!! My thread was implying on those LGs dat simply hogged the front few rows and rudely denying anyone that comes after that to even have a peek...:nono::nono::nono:

this is a situation... whereby lazy photographer who can't bother to come early for the show falsely accuse and condenmed all those who using the ladders. from the way the thread go on...it doesn't even matter if they are at 1st or 2nd row or had given way to the old and invalids...as long as they are on ladders...they will be labeled names by the 'righteous mobs' here.

Why use ladder?????

Think tomorrow when i go watch movie, i will stand up and watch.....those behind me just too bad, who ask them to buy ticket so slow. :bsmilie:

don't forget, you must make sure that the old and invalid are in front of you...

and then if anyone scolds you, you must tell them that they are lazy......

See, this is the issue. Why is it that competitive? What is there to get competitive about? A few good looking girls with dodgy backgrounds, no space to breath nevermind compositional freedom, poor lighting, etc?

Why queue 2 hours or 3 hours and bring stepladders and all that?

That's what I want to know.

Where can you shoot a few good looking girls with dodgy backgrounds, no space to breath never mind compositional freedom, poor lighting, etc Free? :bsmilie:

yes, after a while, i just didn't feel like shooting or associating myself with photography at all..

i think the cosplayers must have been very put off by such behaviour.. either that or flattered i guess.

i also noted a few random solo rangers acting very suspiciously... lenses pointed to the wrong parts, going in far too close......

Hi! Hi Nai Meh! (Wave hands!)

I am the one using lightsphere in the crowd!

It's a bit crowded but nice and cozy here among friends!

Wish you could be here!

:) :bsmilie: :sweatsm:

It's just *sad*. These people not realise how desperate they appear?

Bringing ladders and camping hours in advance is even worse o.O

it's all in a hard day's work, don't forget it.

never mind if you have many camera systems, very good lenses and pro level bodies and don't get sharp photos.

you can tell yourself that you are the most hardworking photographer on the block.

This answer is best!:bsmilie:

Not forgetting those ego boosting comments they will receive with they post in CS.

I don't know what you all are complaining about. First come first place mah. You want to shoot, you want to see, you come early.

If you are lazy and you can't tahan the waiting game, that means you don't have that rich a passion for event photography. Give it up and go shoot portraits.

This thread is all about inconsiderate behaviors.

If you go early and got a place in front, fair enough. But don't use a ladder and block all those behind. The event is probably meant to be viewed when public is standing on ground level. The performers stand on a stage so that MORE people can view! If it is meant to be viewed by the audience at same level with performers, the organisers probably don't need to use a stage in the first place! To stand at first row and be on same level as performers is downright inconsiderate behavior.

According to your line of arguments, are you saying that those who can afford it (the time, money) can take all they want w/o being considerate for others?

It is also about limited resources. Let's take NDP tickets as example.

For NDP tickets, Being first in the queue doesn't meant that you can take all the tickets w/o limits (like PG taking up the extended airspace above his natural height). It is just Not right. Please take your share and leave some room for others to enjoy too.

by standing on ladder IN FRONT, they are depriving others behind of a view. there is only so much space in the first row, not everyone can stand on first row.

Please be considerate and only occupy as much space as your natural height. Don't take up the extended airspace above your natural height by the use a ladder. You are defeating the purpose of the elevated stage and depriving others behind of their rightful share of views.

Want good angle, take a super zoom and ladder and shoot from behind.

Why use ladder?????

 Good example.. really proves the point. Movies are not meant to be watched while standing.

Events are not meant to be viewed on ladders. What is the stage for? To elevate the performances so that people behind CAN SEE!!

I don't know what you all are complaining about. First come first place mah. You want to shoot, you want to see, you come early. In this line it IS that competitive. Why don't you start learning from the event photographers? People have ladders, you can go and buy a ladder. People reach there one hour early and kapok their location, you can go there three hours earlier and block book the frontline.

For instance, if you went to queue for a condo and you were late, do you open a thread in CS to complain why those people so kiasu and queue overnight?

If you are lazy and you can't tahan the waiting game, that means you don't have that rich a passion for event photography. Give it up and go shoot portraits.

You can go and ask YLSX (our event king) how he did it. Learn from him. When you go to an event and you see a lot of photographers standing by on the first row, that means you are VERY late. You think people who come two hours early will let you squeeze into his place? Nope. You should put in some effort. Nobody owes you a position in the crowd.

Or we could rush into the MRT and sit on the floor in the middle of the door entrance; so when our stop comes, its easiest for us to alight.
Nobody should complain that they can't go in or out easily; because "we get my spot by being quicker than the others" Anyone bystanders would bothers to point it out are self righteous and sour grapes.

Of course we COULD sit at the entrance (since we are early) but SHOULD we? Its about graciousness.

I don't see any false accusation on the LG at the front, they did stand on the ladders in front and block other people. For me, its not that ladders should not be allowed at events, but its just a effort not to select a spot that blocks so many others.

The words GWC comes to mind.

Perhaps the organizers should also play a role and consider these LG/GWC when organizing events. If the space permits, they could easily "barricade" a small area few meters from the stage for PG's with ladders. Those without ladders could still stand in front of the stage to take pictures. How big an are would depend on the expected crowd turnout I guess.

Cheers,
Andrew

desperate not really true, many do it for various reasons, some are retired senior citizens, some got no galfrens and are very bored on weekends, some just want to show off big equipment to general public, some want free shoots to practice etc...

... when people asked him why need to stand up ? oh well... from such angle, i can get a different perspective... u see this is MY STYLE ! :sticktong

it is not just ladders that is a problem... a while ago i attended one single costume event at the behest of some friends, and i was disgusted by the behaviour of the photographers at that event at downtown east. i never participated in such again. whenever a cosplayer would volunteer to pose for one photographer, you should see the swarm of bees flocking to the area and jostling. never mind that the poor photographer who originally asked the cosplayer to move to the side for a better background didn't get to shoot, they would step all over him/her and push them aside.

i guess there is something inherently wrong with our culture, that saying a simple "excuse me", or waiting for people to have their turn is out of the question.

From your point on the cosplayer, yea.. there a bunch of people are really getting inconsiderate nowadays. Met situation where people are snapping away at the cosplayers, there are some that just walk directly into their "line of fire" and start snapping on their own making the rest of the photographers behind frustrated. After these inconsiderate people are happy taking their shots (which they seem like to be taking for a very long time), they walked off and the cosplayers maybe stop posing or would have changed their pose already.
I have been to the above-mentioned cosplay events as I have some friends who are into cosplaying as hobby. I have to concur with the observations above. Sadly this is also one area where there is total lack of etiquette and courtesy. It has become a "free for all" at these events for these shooters.

I've noticed more and more photographers with DSLRs are starting to swarm these events, especially those free ones like the one at Downtown East, presumably coz quite a large percentile of cosplayers are young females and some wearing fairly revealing outfits (think Sailor Moon short skirts style and the like) and these events are starting to resemble those auto shows where racequeens are swamped with photogs from all over, only difference is the "models" at these events are cosplayers in their teens. I've seen my share of bad behaviour at these events, some photogs ask them to pose in risque or uncomfortable poses, or take shots from low angles etc., some hog them or keep pestering them for shots even tho they seem uncomfortable with it or refuse their requests. A lot of them like to cut in and also block or obstruct other shooters. Usually the 1st photog who ask the cosplayer for shots will eventually get crowded out or obstructed before he can even get a decent shot.

Its become such that the photographers exhibiting such behaviours are becoming an annoyance not just to the cosplayers, but to other members of the public or attendees who are just there to enjoy the event and not getting pushed, stepped on or crowded out by them.

I've seen some familiar faces among these shooters, and some of them are also from the infamous "Ladder Gang" mentioned here. Also seen a small but noticeable no. of shooters with suspicious behaviours as mentioned by night86mare, e.g sniping secretly from far, or weird angles etc.

Already there have been some complaints started by cosplayers on the inconsiderate and rude behaviours of these questionable photographers. They are giving the rest a bad rep! :thumbsd:

to balance the discussion, I came across a very senior PG at S.H.E event at Stadium MRT. He saw a lady who actually suffers from dwarf syndrome having difficulty taking pics of her idols and was most of the time towered by ppl taller than her by 1.5 - 2 times...real suffocating... the pg of coz did not offer her his step ladders...but he took the initiative to tell the first 2,3 rows of audience to let this lady move to the front as it was difficulty for her to stay in that position for >3 hrs...

Prior to this, I hv nv come across any PGs who took care of ppl around him/her:think:

At events, if there's a little buy or girl standing behind me, I'll just let them stand in front. After all, they will not block my camera.. just be considerate and everyone can have their share of fun ;)

you are self righteous!

go and reflect on yourself and stop being so lazy. sour grapes!:angry:

Wait, this isn't strictly a photographer-only problem... are the general public suppose to camp overnight and bring along ladders too, if they want unobstructed views?? What I can see is, a blanket "block-all" at the front line. If this doesn't stop, the public will just develop a general bitter after-taste for all photographers who fields a DSLR (not just those with ladders)... If that happens, it won't be long that we'll be forced to label the LG the "black sheeps" of our community. Mark my words... It should happen on Stomp anyday now... :bsmilie: Talk about propagating negative stereotyping of photographers at events!
