Bad experience with Pgs on step ladders

There is always a fine line even for official photographers. They should do their job with minimal distraction to the performers (or models in this case) and audience.

Think about this: Should taxi drivers always have the right of way? :dunno:

do they need the right of way? if they need i'll say give them. if they dun screw them. same as pgs. if they really need that photo or else can commit suicide, i say give them. if they are play play photographers i say heck them.

:think: Depends lah. Taxi drivers don't absolutely need to cut 2 lanes suddenly to pick up passengers but it adds up to their income. Very often there is no such thing as they really need that photo or else can commit suicide. They are always other jobs out there.

Maybe organizers need multiple level ladders for future events. Pgs can come early to chop the highly sought after level 1's to get their highly desirable eye level views and the rest can take level 2-10 to see the show better :bsmilie:

Sometimes it's so crowded that there's no where else to stand. You sound suspiciously like one of those LGs. :think::think:

I think purpose of such events are usually to showcase to the public and so viewers shud have the priority. Whenever i'm shooting events ( not for money though ) I try my best not to inconvenience anybody...even fellow photogs. I think you seem to have the idea that bcos you are shooting for money...you have every right to stand on your ladder and dun give a damn abt the consequences....tsk tsk tsk....that's really very inconsiderate and rude.

i was just remembering wad my coach was saying regarding event photography.
i will not go and check on his accuracy or reliability. just take it at face value bah

there could be such cases where a photo is absolutely necessary. if u miss it it would mean difference of a promotion or worse, demotion.
i'm just saying perhaps they could had been on duty and they needed the shot. well. perhaps security could set the same rules to them :think:

its not that lar. usually when i shoot for events, i always seek out advantage points first. wont be so dumb to crowd with all the photographers. pick the right angles and the right timing and i can still get shots.

well. to give u an idea...

abv fellow is Song Yi Min 宋逸民. the guy acting as luo an ping in 爱, the taiwanese drama.
i took this from the sides and i was... abt 4th person from the fence. other photogs were in front with step ladder. i wasnt on duty. just happened to have camera and event showed up. admittedly, it was challenging as i had this supertall guy infront of me. not easy to shoot. but i managed a few crucial shots.

well. wad icould suggest would be:
u shoot for 1st minute with the ladder, or maybe the most crucial parts. while the rest dun.
i believe if 1 or 2 ppl using step ladder is no one complain. is only when u have 20 idiots standing infront of fence all aaround with ladders then its pissing.

as usual, i'll give priority to the official photogs. they can have ladders. the rest can only tiptoe and pray. how does that sound?

Nice points raised there. I too wonder what satisfaction you'd get by taking pictures of events. I guess the official photographers have no choice, friends of the participants maybe would like to get some shots of their friends. What do the "extra" photographers do with the pictures? Link them on clubsnap?

Pity the 2 girls who are standing behind and are not able to see much being blocked by the wall of shooters.

I seldom shoot events but i have a small 9 inch stool that i sometimes bring (I am 178cm tall)but i always stand behind the main crowd even when i am early, i do get blocked but i think it adds to the atmosphere. Its less packed at the back and able to move around for different angles. I remember once there was a Grandmother with her young grand daughter and she was blocked by the main group and was not able to see much, i lent her my stool and she was so happy, i bet that made her day. Maybe the 'LG' should share their vintage points with other shooters for a while, or step down once a while to allow the people at the back a better view, that will cause less resentment.

If not, i do hope they share more of their better pictures in the Ready, Lights, Action! section for more people to enjoy.:bigeyes:

They could have moved back more if using zooms. Kinda sad to see this kind of situation. I was on the site for that day, I also found camera bags thrown on the floor in the front line, without the photographer in sight. The owner only come back to the bag like 15 mins after. I observed awhile and found that he is a loner. It just like people reserving the table with tissue papers place on the table during lunch time....

I have seen threads on CS yes, and I haven't yet seen one that has progressed beyond a snapshot with the aforementioned far from ideal backgrounds, viewpoint, clutter...

That doesn't mean there's not a good shot out there somewhere, just that I haven't seen one yet.
