Bro, can use A or M, but when zoom, have to manually change aperture again....

Thanks bro for the warning. I have read about this "feature" in DPReview and hopefully it will not turn out to be too troublesome...

But do you guys attached it to the hot shoe or use a flash adaptor? I was hoping for the latter so that I can still use the EVF.

nah. pretty typical of any pop-up flash. did u use it on auto? there's an option called soft flash. i found it a little better than auto mode.

Works on the hotshoe, so either external flash OR evf , not both at the same time ... unless u use the internal flash to "trigger" the external flash via a cheap flash sensor cell. Some shots taken with SB28DX on A mode, full exif included ....

Since we are on flash, what will be the most suitable brand and model. Given the camera size, it will look "ridculous" with a big flash... like SB600. Any suitable flash that is about the size of SB400 ? Hope anyone can share. Thanks

Looks like the flash works really well. I will go get one However, I have not used a dedicated flash before and I will like to know in the case of GX100, what settings will be required to be made when using A mode?

I have read on DPReview someone mentioned the Metz mecablitz 28 AF-3 digital which I believe will be of acceptable size. The other option may be the mecablitz 28 CS-2 digital

Even with Soft Flash, sometimes the pic goes over-exposed. Usually when I shoot another shot, it'll be a proper exposure. No idea why it does this....

i like my flash to be on the softer side so it does not flood out the ambient light/color.

The GX100 does not have dedicated flash compensation, however, it is mentioned in DPReview forum that the exposure compensation does affect the flash. You may wish to try this out to confirm.

top that up with an oversized tripod and the look of passerbys = priceless :bsmilie: Think they will mistake the GX100 for the tripod head and wonder where is the camera ;p

Got myself a Olympus FL20. Not sure what are the settings to shoot, as I have not tried using flash in manual mode (ie. all along using TTL). Hope u can advise.

Flash mode:
(1) TTL mode = Am sure definitely cannot function on the camera.
(2) Auto mode = Can ? If can, camera can set to A, M or auto ?
(3) M mode = what should be camera mode ? A an M only ?

For the flash in M mode, does the flash fires at full power everytime ? How can I adjust the fire power ? What settings (i.e. F no. and shutter speed) should be on the camera to work with the flash correctly ?

(1) TTL mode == cannot use on gx100
(2) Auto mode == no problem, you've got to set it on the flash, and do similiar settings on camera (eg ISO, aperature). Auto distance range should be indicated somewhere on the flash (just stick within this range) and auto should be relatively accurate. (details should be in your flash user manual).
(3) Manual, depending on your flash, might be able to set 1/2 power, 1/4, 1/8 etc power. Everything in manual calc, flash GN (guide number w/ ISO w/ aperture) will determine the correct distance, or rather GN, ISO, distance and you'll get the correct aperture (manual math). eg
Distance x Relative Aperture = Guide Number

If the Guide number is 45 (ISO 100, metres) and your subject is 3 metres away, then you can find the aperture required from the formula above:
3 x Aperture = 45
So the aperture you need in this case is f15.
