Any Ricoh GX100 user out there?

Thanks Dennis for the reply. However, I have already tried formatting a couple of cards in the camera before putting the files in root or DCIM folders. Even putting the files in both the folders (as done by some CSers here) also didn't help. For unknown reasons, the camera failed to detect the existence of the files and displayed the "No Files" error message...

If nothing can be done about it, then have to live with the current version and hope the problems addressed in 1.13 don't happen to me. Will be bad if there are more updates coming up...

Maybe you can try copying all the files including the .dll etc into the card, try root as well as the DCIM folder.
The first time I update that is what happens but OK after I copied all the files in.
The second time it seems to be OK copying the 2 files only. :dunno:

Sorry for the stupid question - did you copy the 2 files (slaunchX) to the SD card via a card-reader or directly to the camera using the cable provided in the kit ? I believe you will have issues if the files are copied via a card-reader ...

That is a valid question, but I have done mine via a card reader all the time.
May be better to copy the files via the cable connected to the cam.

Don't own the F31fd although came very close.
I think it all depends on what is more important to you.
The GX100 is a superb camera and is one of the very few with a 24mm zoom lens.
Optics wise not sure about the F31 but the GX100 is very good however in terms of high iso it is no match with the F31.
For me the wide angle is a major factor.

thanks dennis, looks like gx100 is more versatile of the two and with the superb pictures posted by all the 'gx-ian', i will go for gx100....

Thanks Dennis and eawtan. Yes, I did copy the files over with the USB cable and the connection set to "Mass Storage". I will try copying all the files over a try tonight. You guys are most helpful :)

I must say that I love this camera and that sure is some nice-tasting poison ;p Thinking of getting the wide-angle adaptor and a polarizer next. A total newbie here and have lots to learn from the gurus here.

Edmund,

did u make the switch already? ;)

:D

Wah Andy, not switch yet ??.
Time liow loh, I thought you were checking out something the other day. :bsmilie:

Hope you can get it working, if not will have to think of some other things already.
Good choice on the wide adaptor.
This wide adaptor is really a nice add on.
So far I only have one problem with the cam, is that the aperture changes when you zoom. Hope they can correct this on the next firmware.

Dennis,

I was at your favourite shop on Sat and J tried to poison me by bringing out the demo unit and letting me try it out. I must say I was impressed with the macro ability, using the built-in flash gives great exposures (most compacts will overexpose doing macro with buil-in flash) even with shiny surfaces. Too bad they don't have an underwater housing for it - would love a 24mm compact for underwater.

Wah ahahaha, he himself is poisoned with it liow. :bsmilie:
Underwater housing maybe can get 3rd party.

Haha I was laughing because that was partially responsible for another to buy the camera.
But it is true that most compact cannot do that, at least the Olympus 550 cannot.

Wah, u sound so happy ....

Drats, looks like I have to bring it down to John and see if they can update the firmware for me...

Just curious, do you guys get the lens strap with the standard VF-1 kit (not counting those included in promotions). It is not stated on the packaging but listed as standard item in the manual.
