 aiyah too easy .... better keep my mouth shut

Hello ortega,

Yet another great photo and example of the ability of the camera

I as yet (only a week and a half to go) I don't own one.

I have though looked at the custom setting ability.

Have you set this up for your liking yet

I was thinking of something along the lines of :.......

Custom (1). Fixed apeture. Iso 64to100. Whiteballance for daylight.
Custom (2). Fixed apeture. Iso 64 to 400. Auto Whiteballance.

These being my main settings for both customs.

(1) For shooting outside and (2) for shooting inside.

These are for when I want more control rather than Auto.

Do these settings seem within reason to you or have you another point of view :dunno:

Cheers :)

I have tested this baby on two stores. I saw some flickering on LCD and purple line on LCD when exposed to neon or strong light-source when shooting. The purple line was not shown on the pic, though.

Do you think that's normal ?

Cheers

Hi Ortega, I wanna get P5100 as well. Do you know if the LCD flickering and purple line happen to some or all P5100 units you've hold ? I also noticed noisy LCD view before shooting, is this normal and happen to most P5100 as well ?

I know it may not affect the picture quality, but I'll be more excited without those two issues above.

TIA,
ahandre

Well the purple line does show up in video recordings tho. Just FYI. Tho it will definately not show up on photos.

from my limited knowledge

i guess that this is a liveview issue and affects all P&S/prosumer cameras
so it is normal and you do not have a choice
as "all" liveview cameras will display the same issue.

do correct me if i am wrong about this.

btw as i always say

"Only the image matters"

Thanks for the info, gomobile & ortega. I finally decided to get P5100.

Cheers

congrats! I'm sure you will enjoy the camera!

Anyone knows whether Nikon provides extended warranty, just like what Canon has?

I dun think Nikon has extended warranty, however i do get my extended warranty from harvey norman at a fee. around 70 bucks for extra 2 year warranty.

Then have to get the cam from HN...thinking their price to be higher than other stores...
Which HN has the cam in stock now? Did not see in HN JP and FN...

i brought mine from central HN. $599 after disc with 2gb card and casing. the extended warranty i pay seperately.

Want to ask, P5100 got AE-L function?

According to manual and test, yes it has exposure lock by half-pressing the shutter.

Panorama shots will automatically locked the exposure according to the first shot (manual page 42, I've yet to test the AE-L panorama).

$599 isn't all that bad, even in other stores, its still only $20-$30 less, and there isn't the option of going for extended warranty.

i'm a believer of extended warranty after my d70 flash failed just when it was about to be sold. got it fixed and check by nikon no problem at all. just call HN first. Yup i think $599 is not a bad price. the best i could bargain down that day. :)

OK, just took a snapshot of the stability of pair between P5100 and angled-position SB800.

BTW : any comparison to Canon G9?
thks

Just came back from the store where I fiddled around with this Cam. Must say it feels pretty neat in my hands. G9 is much bigger. P5100 is well priced compared to G9. Does this cam support Raw? Asked the sales person but he was clueless.

Anyone else considering between this 2 cams also?

Thanks.
