Any reports on the P5100 image quality ?

I have had time to take a small play with this camera and I think it is quite good.

I have read all the specs and blurb about the P5100 but unless I actually hold and look at it, it all is just on paper.

Well... I am quite impressed with the quality of picture it takes (both auto and manual).

But more so I like the ISO range fix you can apply, also the 2 custom settings and then how you can set the fn button.

It feels good also.

I quite like this one

i have had some limited access and so far i am impressed
flash exposure is good, even for tricky situations.

Here are a couple of test images, all taken handheld without flash:

I think this is the Eggplant Tontoro Pork at Kazu, for those who've been here, you know how dark this place is. This is an ISO 400, handheld, no flash shot with a very low NR applied to remove some chroma noise, the out-of-camera shots are fully useable without NR:

This is the Tempura Snow Drop, also at Kazu, ISO 200, hendheld no flash:

Must say that I'm very happy with this compact's performance. :D

Look sharp to me. Any ideas how this camera compare with the FujiF50?

Hi valkyrie,

The two cameras are different in quite a few ways, if not only by how you hold it and of course the size.

I have been waiting to get my hands on an f50 for a couple of months since I saw the beta one.

Now, after using (and basically holding) both the f50 and the P5100, I am going to buy the P5100.

The f50 will give you a great quality photo, no doubt.

But the P5100 is nicer to hold (not prop between fingers and thumb).

Very importantly it has a view finder !

It has lens shift image stabiliser.

It has very good custom ability (2 of)

Able to program the use of the fn button.

Greater use of manual settings.

Hot shoe.

Fast !

These are the things that come to mind from the short time I have spent with both cameras.

To me, the price difference does not matter (f50 @ $499, P5100 @ $649) nor does the size.

I want the P5100 as it will be a good serious p&s camera to have when I am not using my DSLR.

Cheers :)

finally time to upgrade my coolpix 5400 to 5100
going to miss the wide angle in 5400 :(

 Love the colors and details that this baby is capturing.

These are from the temple buried in the middle of the CBD? Can't remember, was it Amoy St? :)

That incense burner's design (and red wall) is unique to this temple I think.

Love the quality of this camera that ortega post. Just visited Nikon Showroom to have a feel of the camera, indeed the holding feel much comfy than the F50fd.

Nice photos ortega, I have taken some picture with P5100 after work as well. But none turn up as well as yours. Thanks for sharing. I have how ever tried with sb 800 and it works great!

Great photo's ortega. Good choice of subjects with good composition, all well taken.

I had made up my mind to buy this camera and you have left me with no doubts.

Hope I can give it the justice that you have.

Cheers
