one bad point about this lens is the lack of tripod collar.
with my d200 on tripod, it tends to creep down due to 'uneven' weight distribution?
a pity.

nvrtheless, i find this a good lens for travelling.
For 95% of shots, with VR, tripod can stay at home to collect dust liao. Unless you're a nitesnapper.

My guess the same too and many thanks for your test shots. :)
So the AF-s 70-300 VR has live to it's name... with the picture quality that you have shown.

The lens creep issue is quite common for "long" zoom...

Unless you're using a gigantic ball head or other HD head. Inevitable due to the high torque.

Below are some 300mm shots taken at noon:

Just got the last piece from Lords! Gonna enjoy this lens. Happy shooting everyone!! :)

Thanks bro. I am lusting for the 70-200VR to complement my 17-55. However, I don't usually shoot in the telephoto range and thought the 70-300VR will be a better option for me. It is easier to carry for travels too. :)

anyone have pic for the new 70-300vr len?

OH YEAH,

where else still have stock available??

looks like a promising lens....@ a good price too, seems cheaper than its canon counterpart, the 70-300 IS as well.

Took a quick handheld night shot at Bugis Junction just now to test the VR:

I have uploaded some of the original size photos taken by the 70-300VR here. After clicking the photo, click the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner to zoom-in. As the file size is pretty big, please wait for awhile for the photo to load. :)

This lens is as sharp if not sharper than the 18-200VR!!It is going to be as popular as the 18-200, as it is reasonably priced. It will be selling like hot-dogs in the next shipment!!!!

Hi guys,
Just wondering, if I compare the tele end of the 70-300 VR with a 300mm f4 prime, which would give me a sharper picture?
I believe at tele end of 70-300, the aperture would be "forced" to f5.6, ya?

thanks for your input...:)

pls dun flame me if u feel i'm asking the obvious.

Merry Christmas...:)

Dunno why so many so concerned with sharpness. In most cases, if you don't print bigger than 8R or need to crop alot, sharpness is never a problem. There are many other attributes that are important if not more important like
Weight
Size [length & diameter] n filter size
Price
Versatility
VR or no VR
Front end rotates or not
Can use teleconverter or not
etc
