sorry.i'm not obligated to do these 'tests'.
i'm sure in the entire CS forum, i'm not the only one who has this lens and not the appropriate person to even comment on this lens in a 'technical' way.

search wise, i've already said.no limit button.hence hunts alot.quite irritating.

it just a suggestion, My apology if it have been taken too seriously.:)

I had the previous version of the 70 - 300. Being a ED lens and comes with a Limit Switch. All I have is that it focuses pretty fast and more robust than the 70 - 30 G lens.

dude are u SURE there's a limit switch on the old 70-300 AFD ED? like very very sure?

Thanks jeanie for the impromtu tests. Hope to see more tests so as to allow us to make better judgement of these equipment.

Looks like I'm the only one with the correct guesses.. hahah

The 70-300 against the venerable 70-200. If it is hard to guess it right, it means that the difference is small, insignificant. Hope to see more of such test and more thorough test. Hope also that there are other CSers who come forward to do it as a contribution to the community.

This reminds me of a comparo done by KRW, between the FF 5D and the Canon PnS and the diff is pretty small too.

all 4 shots VR off,tripod mount,fired with ML 3.

A and B shot wide opened.

A
169.jpg

B
2117.jpg

what surprises me is there's not much noticeable diff between C and D.
same aperture was used.f5.6

C
460.jpg

D
395.jpg

Let me venture with another guess.

B and C is the 70-300
A and D is the 70-200

;)

If you can't tell the different, does that means we should buy the cheaper option?

I just snapped up the last piece of 70-300VR at Lords to complement my 17-55. It is selling as fast as the 18-200VR. ;)

Bro, looks like the BBB virus has struck again!!....keep it to yourself this wednesday hor!:p for me, 21 days and counting!!

...had the 80-200 2.8ED for this trip, the pictures looked great!!....now if the diff between the 80-200Vr and 70-300VR is as per jeanie's posting.....

Yeah lor ;p The 70-300VR is pretty good. Below is a shot taken through my car window at Old Upper Thomson Road this afternoon :)

Hey, pretty good this monyet shot. How about giving us the virgin 100% crop to take a peek [virgin meaning unadulterated with any processing ;) ]

Nice shot!! .......wish I had that VR and extra 100mm with me!!, came back with a stronger left arm though:)

Let me venture with another guess.

B and C is the 70-300
A and D is the 70-200

;)

nice guess.
and you're right.

upon closer scrutinisation, the aircon condenser (?) on the left has more details than the one shot with 70-300.;)

one bad point about this lens is the lack of tripod collar.
with my d200 on tripod, it tends to creep down due to 'uneven' weight distribution?
a pity.

nvrtheless, i find this a good lens for travelling.

yeah the 70-300 VR looks like a good buy.........will be another popular lens
