hello guys,

I'm thinking of getting this lens or save up more for the 80-200mm D version.

I understand that the 80-200 is like twice the price of this VR lens haha...

but just wondering if i should really save up for the constant aperture or just buy the 70-300VR instead.

Depends on your budget and what kind of shot's you're after... ;)

I just bought the 70-300mm VR. I read from the manual that "wait for the image in the viewfinder to stops vibrating before fully depressing the shutter". I did some test shot at home but I didn't notice that the image vibrating. I have already turn on the VR in normal mode. Any idea?

VR is to hold the shaking, not to vibrate the camera.
Try VR-normal and compare with VR 'off'.:)

Noted. What I have interpret from the manual seem to me that from the viewfinder I should see the image vibrating and it will eventually stop.

Lol, perhaps they are referring to the unsteady image at 300mm when not yet VR'ed -- you know, that shaky image when framing and focussing. At least, I know I've got the shakes at tele-zoom :) When the shutter is half-depressed, the VR kicks in and sort of stabilizes the whole image, and only then snap. (This experience from my 18-200, I still don't have the 70-300 (yet ;)))

I did a couple of shot just now. When VR is "on", I notice at 300mm the image in the viewfinder do not shake as much as when the VR is "off". What is your experience with the VR 18-200mm?

Yup yup, then you get that warm fuzzy glow -- "Ooooh my VR is working :bsmilie:" Besides not shaking as much, I feel that slight sense of resistance if I do try to move; sort of like trying to move against some gyroscopes in there.

Thanks! :D I guess why I didn't notice much of the shaking/vibrating initially was because I'm using focal length of 70mm.

This lens is HOT!!! Still out of stock... Wonder where could I get it... :dunno:

TK Foto do not have stock. Called John 3:16 but they never answer the call...

I think u got the wrong lens? $1260 should be the 18-200Vr.. The 70-300Vr is around $900+ only..

sorry to raise this old thread but didnt want to start a new one when there's one already.

i just bought this lens and i was wondering abt the VR function. either i am overdemanding, have overrated or simply dont quite appreciate it.

i tried taking a few shots at night and i feel that pics with and without VR doesnt look much different with the same settings and point of focus.

and i feel the focusing isnt very accurate, takes a while even in daylight plus it's easily confused?

You cannot really treat the VR as a tripod, as this 70-300 VR allows you to hand hold shutter speeds up to 4 stops slower than usual.

Yes, for couple of secs before you can see it steady. Do not click until it is steady.

erm.. anyone with this lens can tell me the max aperture at 70, 135, 200, 300mm? all the reviews never state.

also, read that for the AF-S consumer zooms (18-55, 18-70, 18-135, 55-200), the SWM is of lower quality when compared to eg. 105 VR, 300 VR. is there really a difference, and if so this 70-300 falls under which category? (apparently instant manual override will weaken such inferior SWM in the consumer zooms)
