may buy the hitech ... but i think u mentioned 3 filters and holder etc will cost 200+200... and this is "ouch"..

Yup. around 200. But if you go Lee foundation kit the price goes u. The adapter ring is around $100 and the filter holder is around 120+, I think.

How do you use B+W ND together with Tianya?

You hold the Tianya in front by hand? Cos the holder would've occupied the threads, where to screw the B+W?

If hold by hand, ND110 means you need to steady your hands for a few secs?

Yes Hitech filters come in 85mm too. I do not know if TK Foto stocks them though. I would recommend you get the Cokin P holder instead of the Tianya. Cokin's cost $15-17 I think and is made much better than Tianya.

What do you mean 100+, filters or 85mm holder? I have no idea of the prices of the Hitech 85mm filters or holders. You should give TK Foto a call and ask them.

Dude, why get all the filters if you don't know how to use? :dunno:

In the future, it is wiser to get only stuff you need la. All the colored grads are not really useful in digital, as you can do a better job adding the color in PP.

Yeah, that is why... Learning how to use them all.. Now already switched to Cokin, but will choose those filters carefully.. For sure, i'll keep my current tianya ND4, ND8, GND, CPL, and also soft filters. Later will purchase cokin's ND filters as i've already know how to use them..

Why do you stack uv + cpl? (I'm guessing UV is to "protect" lens and you're lazy to remove it when using cpl.) ;p

And cpl + nd4 + nd8? This I would like to ask those who use filters - can the effect of the cpl still be seen after stacking so many stops of nd?

And UV + CPL is usually a no no. and you are still adding 2 more ND filters.

I think vignetting has also got something to do with the strength of light at the corner of the frame which usually is further away from the sun plus the curvature of the len's front element. It can get really pronounced if the sun has not set / has already risen.

I am not sure about the strength of the light kind of theory. All I know is if you block light, it will appear black. Thats all.

cause those were the only filters i have haha. dun have money to get a 6-8stop nds
just make do with what u have and shoot the best of ur abilities i guess.

a uv (lens insurance)
a cpl (for fun)
a nd4
and a nd8


i got the image i wanted, and i wanted the vignetting effect. so i'm not complaining. just highlighting to those that may not want the same effect.


btw just curious, why is uv+cpl a nono? my cpl is part of the tianya kit and not the screw on type.

CPL with UV can cause problems. in some situations. I have more than a few shots ruined because of this, but this was quite some years ago.

I'm not very sure too, it's from my experience (not very long though :embrass and some logical deductions.

Tried using a B+W 106 ND (6 stops) plus 2-stop GND and very often I'll still get vignetting, especially when the sun is near the horizon where the difference in the brightness compared to other parts of the sky further away from the sun is very huge. (unless, somebody invent a GND that gets lighter in circular direction like ripples in water). Add the fact that curvier the front element meant that the part further away from the sun will get lesser light, so it becomes darker :sweat:
