A99

There are quite a lot. But most are busy shooting. In a recent photoshoot I walked past (looked like one of the normal CS ones) I saw about 10 photogs, 3 had the A99.

haha.. erm.... would you guys go for such a shoot? as in to shoot models? i'm quite against it at this point in time.. i haven got time to read and figure out how to post my pictures here. by the way.. if my pics are post process in lightroom. would you guys be ok? or no..have to be strictly OOC.

It's everyone's favorite hobby on CS. Look at the sheer number of photoshoot events.

I'm ok with that but it would be even more awesome if you could post both [non-edited and edited] on flickr or any other service. Not asking for it, just saying it would be nice. ;-)

Hi Bro,

noted on that.. might need someone to teach me how to post here.. very new to alot of stuff, you could give me your comments and feedback on how to improve myself as well.

Pictures are all taken since 1 dec . i've put the dates in there. everyday just shooting a few pictures as i travel to work and back.. more of a documentary/street journalism theme kinda feel to it.. all pictures taken using the Sigma 50mm F1.4 and crop to make it wide.

I see no problem with using Lightroom at all as long as the pics are not heavily Photoshop.
The dynamic range of the Sony sensors are so good many details can only be brought out by manipulating the histogram.

sold my sony a55 slt kit and lens...
still deciding on which full frame to switch to a99/6d/d600
went to try out a99 at wisma, kind of bulky and i seem to have issues with quick selecting the af focus points
Is there a trick to quick way to selecting them?

Just use the joystick to select af points

i've played with all of them. to me, the 6D's grip is pretty uncomfortable. my pinkie sticks out at the bottom.

but they've solved that navigation pain from the 5D3. great to use that 4-way button pad... but the AF Points suck. only 1 cross-type, and it's going for the same price as the D600.

if you're a Sony shooter, go for the A99. the A99 is in a totally different class from the 6D and D600.

yeah, i tried the 6d today, the buttons are in weird positions.... :(
5d3 has better button positioning, easy to select af focus and shoot.

a99 af focus selection i wasnt able to get it right the time i tried, could be one of the settings the guy before me did to the camera(maybe spot? shrugs).
didnt really have much time to be on it.

tried the D600 and loved the interface and button positioning.
feels better than a99(too huge) and 6d(just weird)

lastly the new quick dial on the a99 is weird to me too, cant get it to work properly..
having trouble holding it in and turning at the same time..
am i the only one having troubles?? :(((

You press it once to engage the function. You don't have to hold it down.

The preset option can be done in the menu.

As for pressing and holding, it's to access all the functions that can be used with that button

guess will take quite to get used to it then...
headache, dunno whether to get D600 or a99 or 6D/5D3/5D2

You're in the Sony sub-forum so go A99!

haha i wished! If only a99 would price drop $300 :)
currently i have the rank in this manner D600, a99, 6D.

Have you played with all of them?
Btw how much is the A99 right now? Last time I checked it was $3205 but that was during the GST promotion. ;)

Around $3.3k, body only.
May have to ask a few more shops.
Price should be coming down, since 5D3 price dropped too.

Imagine on black friday sony store (US) for a99 body is US$2,799(SG$3,415) with free 32" TV.
Now for a77+16-50 kit also US$1,698(SG$2,072) on B&H with additional 2% discount.

Maybe should go US for holiday? ;)

The A99 price is not tied to the Canon 5dMkIII.

A99 is also a step higher than D600 in capabilities even if Sony made the D600 sensor.

I did hands on both D600 and a99, did not find too much difference in IQ.
But the price difference is quite great, D600 around US$2,000(SG$2,440) compared to US$2,799(SG$3,300).
A SG$900 difference, enough for me to get a lens.

Edit:
Even after 5D3 price drop current pricing is at US$2,990(SG$3,648) same as D800, SG$348 difference only...

Buttons on all cameras just need time to get used to it. Doesn't mean it's bad or good.

Tried a99 over 2 full days.

Given I'm a a77 user tot my learning curve will be quick. But guess not

Likes
- noise control

Dislikes
- AF area is too centered as compared to a77 but I understand this is due to sensor siZe
- Cross sensor doesn't seem as sensitive as a77
- AF shows subject lock but its oof. Hv to focus away then refocus
- half press button feels too soft as compared to a77. Hence missed quite a number of shots due to lock shifting.
- spot af and zone AF speed feels significantly slower and realize wide area AF locks on faster

This is my user feedback hvg been using a77 under similar condition for past 1 yr. had to totally change my af technique to compensate for the AF cross sensor spmewhat slow response

Will I buy?
Need a ff and my shooting workflow is Sony dpdnt. Hope price drops
