A99

I played with the A99, 6D and 5D Mark III side by side today. I was surprised how much the A99 struggled in lower contrast areas with the center AF point. Turned my enthusiasm a bit down...

Btw someone else encountered that the back wheel wears off after a relatively short while and gets hard to turn?

Hmmm interesting, I had the exact opposite experience though. The a99 locked on no problem where the 6d struggled

The A99's AF worked surprising well in dark low contrast areas but it didn't really work in bright areas like on white granite where the Canon bodies had an easy play.

Never really had any focusing concerns itch the a99. Quick snappy and accurate for days and night shoot leh :dunno:

Single AF point never failed?

Hmm.. by any chance could it be the lens used?

:)

How does it compare to the D600 and D800?

I did play with the A99 and 6D today. Pointed at some black panels using the center spot AF. The 6D struggled and couldn't focus but the A99 succeeded. All the time

Too bad I didn't try anything black.

Well it has to be given that its the only cross hair af point :s

The 5D3 also has cross sensors.

:bsmilie:

what atarandas is trying to say is that... the 6D only has ONE cross sensor. kinda pathetic, considering that the A900 and A850 had the same single cross sensor...

except that it's a DOUBLE cross in them.

They didn't have the same, the one in the A900/850 only went down to 0EV.

yea. it went down to 0EV. what i'm saying is that. just like the A900/850, it's got only ONE Cross-type AF Sensor.

which is what everyone is harping about

Is it normal to hear 2 ticking sounds (approx .5 sec interval) when you turn on A99?

This sound is different from the auto cleaning vibration when you turn of the camera.

i read some post that it happens to A33/A55 - which they say is normal: Sony Alpha A-33 Clicking noise when turned on. Please help!: Sony Alpha SLR/SLT Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

but im not sure if its also the same for all A99.
