A99

The new Carl Zeiss 50/1.4 won't come cheap either.

Yeah i know, but lens hold their value better than body.
Esp where Sony body's are concerned....

I really love my 35mm F1.8 on my crop, 50/1.4 would be great for me on FF.

It could take ages till the new 50/1.4 is out. Sony only announced the development, not even the release of the lens and we know what happened in the past in those cases. I bed the CZ 50/1.4 will come out early 2014 along with the A99 successor. ;-)

Well, that's just 10% of the reason.
Haven't been able to secure a cheap 24-70Z 60%
and 50mm F1.4 is not out yet for me to PWP 30%

Hey johndoe2, what did they quote you for the CZ 24-70/2.8?

So buy the 50 f/1.4 then.

I wished, but it is not out yet.
They said early 2013. :S

$2,560.

There will not be any A99 successor in 2013, or lower end models either :(
Doesn't it remind you of the A8xx/A9xx history? Scary...

Hmm... 6D $2580 (new) + 24-70 F2.8 mk1 $1.1k (B&S) + 50mm F1.4 $400 (B&S) + 430EX2 $300 (B&S)
Only $4,380... argh decisions to justify sony is hard....

vs

a99 $3205 (new) + 24-70Z F2.8 $2560 (new) + 50mm F1.4 unknown (new) + F58AM (existing)
$5765 + unknown....

is it advisable to use sigma/tarmon's 24-70 & 50mm?

He meant the old Sony/Minolta screw drive 50/1.4.

I doubt the camera sales very well, it's easily available since day one and the price has dropped faster than the competition. Also, look at the pricing in other regions. In Europe it's more expensive than the D800/E. I doubt there will be another full-frame body anytime soon. I just hope they will still support more lenses in AF-D and they will add more lens profiles that are more useful as lenses like the DT 30/2.8 they support. The list of lens profiles looks random and it's amazing that they didn't add more lenses so far...

Oh i see my bad.

Well... if i go 3rd party lens... I'd probably skip the minolta 50/1.4 and go for the sigma one (personal preference).
a99 $3205 + Sigma 24-70 F2.8 $850 (B&S) + Sigma 50mm 1.4 $600 (B&S) + F58AM (existing)
$4655

$275 more, considering the better body is worth it... but lost the new AF-D function as the lens are not supported.. :(

Exactly, forget the Sigma 50/1.4. I enjoyed the Sony 50/1.4 in AF-D mode.

hmmm if i do lower end full sony...
a99 $3205 (new) + SAL2875 F2.8 $650 (B&S) + SAL50 F1.4 $350 (B&S) + F58AM (existing)
$4205

Actually not that bad huh... hmm if a99 price drop $200, can nicely wrap it up in $4k. :D
And both lens are AF-D supported.

AF-D is nice for shooting sports. But for everyday portraiture, etc, it's not really needed. Normal AF is fine.

And it's all stabilized.

Why are we comparing A99 to low end fullframe from Nikon and Canon ?

And why a second hand 24-70mk1 versus brand new CZ 24-70

and a speedlite 430 against F58am ?

If Sony doesn't plan to release a ff in 2013, and canikon targets entry ff crowd, wat option does a99 has? Hold its pricing and lose the base or drop the price to compete in tat segment and come 2014 release another leap in ff slt cam?

Y forget the sigma 50f1.4? The Hsm is fast.

It's fair but can't compete with a modern 1st party lens. I used only the Nikon F copy, maybe you're right and the A-mount version is more reliable.

Price wise the A99 competes already more with the D600/6D than it does with the D800E/5D3. Well, at least in Singapore. :-P It's a different story in Europe where the A99 seems to be closer to the D4. ;-)

Sony already tried attracting the entry FF crowd with the A900 (cheapest FF at the time) then the A850, whose RRP was only $100 more than the 6D. It was not popular and Sony kept on getting complaints that it was "too simple". Looks like Sony is targeting a more "feature aware" crowd now that will realize the value of all the added features the A99 has over a stripped-down system like the 6D is worth the small price premium.
