The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, as they say.
Those with Kx, Kr and who are upgrading would appreciate K5 II and K5 IIs more,
I sensed they are either waiting for K5 to put on Personal Classified or for K5 II and K5 IIs to hit the stores.

yes, "still" a k-x user here... thinking of k-5 for the better grip... hope that they will have the K-5 limited edition kind of grip... so hope that these 5II or 5IIs have something like that too...

by the way... when AA filter take away, the detail and sharpness really better? to me now K-x with prime lens already very good... what kind of "god like" improvement it can be???

also any trade off for camera that without AA filter?

It's a sad day when Pentaxians on CS start to sound like the crazy bunch of opinionated armchair pseudo experts on Pentaxforums. Perhaps you may feel underwhelmed by the recent announcements, that Pentax needs to do this or that..., seriously if the quality of images posted on CS is any indication, it should be obvious that any limitation lies with the person behind the camera not the camera gear. For many who already own the K-5, the new K-5 II and K-5 IIs might not appear too much of an upgrade, but I beg to differ.

There is almost a 2 year difference since the K-5 was first launched and technology has definitely progressed since that time, so to say that there isn't gonna be too much of a difference is pretty silly. The K-5 was a fine camera for me but I shoot a lot indoors and had niggling issues with the AF, something already resolved with the K-30. So I'm actually happy that the K-5 II will improve upon the already good capability of the K-5. For me the K-5 IIs and PK-Q Adapter will be the items that I'm interested in but I'm not in any particular rush. It would have been great if a FF was announced but I'm realistic it won't happen so soon.

Because if it is really to fix previous fault, then why not just provide a firmware update? Auto focus issue was always there in the k5 due to too large area focusing point, if it is to fix it, why not provide a firmware to make the auto focusing point smaller? As it is, I have already gotten used to not having so pin sharp focus so no point that now a k5II with better focusing is attractive or rather will I want to fork out extra $$$ for faults that should not be in the initial k5, even thou it is a good camera. Emjay was never able to help and just claim no problem with the auto focus etc etc. So to people like it, it will take alot more before i will be willing to fork out for another body. The current k5 is fine enough

I am no expert, but sometimes, there's only how much you can improve on the firmware. Ultimately, the hardware needs to support it.

The world doesn't just revolve around current k5 users. There are many who are still using k10d, k20d, and the kx. And how about those who are going to join Pentax new, esp sitting on the fence earlier with K5 knowing some of the faults they can't live with, and now an upgraded version that may just work out. Let's just say "watch this space". ;-)

You know your photographing needs, and if you say the current k5 works fine for you, that's great - Money in the pocket for other uses.

Aiyo, since when it's "god-like" IQ without AA filter. If you come to Pentax meet this Saturday, I show you the images of the Ricoh M-mount. Most likely what you'll probably get, if not more!

I sense some poison being dishing out. kekeke

To those saying its no improvement over the K5, or that more is expected.

Firstly, Photokina has not started yet, so lets see what else comes along and what the competition brings to the table.
The D600 is going to be about US$2600, so those dreaming of $1500 FF can now come down to earth.

I'd say the engineers/developers at Pentax are not dummies.
They would certainly have evaluated the sensor options (eg. Sony 24mp aps-c) over the past year or two.
So sticking to 16mp means either they have found this sensor to be the best balance in performance or the are using the 24mp sensor for something better

With the K-5 being practically unchanged, the Pentax line up only has one new model, the K-30. The thing with this is that the K-5 doesn't have a huge amount to make it worth buying up. I few more buttons, heavy metal body, a LCD screen whose display rotates when you turn the camera 90 degrees and a slightly quieter shutter. There is even a disadvantage- the green button no longer has almost unlimited customisation, but is limited to just 4 (I think) options. On teh K-X, I chose filters for it. Can't do that for the K-5..unless it's something I missed.

That makes Pentax a line up of one outstanding model, a still good, but older model, and................well, nothing.

Correct me if I missed something. please! I want Pentax to grow.

This line of argument makes it seem like Pentax should really have sold me a K100D with K5ii capability when they moved from ist*d.
:)

Sometimes updates are big jumps when the confluence of tech is at the right place and time.
very often its incremental.

You have a K5, and if you are not satisfied with K5iis, just wait for the next camera.
Like me for instance, this round, the Q stuff perks my interest.

I'm happy to see Pentax launching these new products.
Would love to get the 18-270mm lens.
As for the new bodies, I think I won't be buying because for me, K5 is still too much for me to handle. :bsmilie:
As a relatively new DSLR user, I'll need to concentrate my time and resources on getting photos that will not in anyway, belittle my lovely K5 and my nice set of lens.

after reading this : How to Reduce Moiré in Lightroom 4

Just feel like addressing this point about moire.

Here's a set of pictures that I have taken with the Ricoh GXR M (known to have a lack of or very thin AA filter) ... what moire?

Even if there is, it really depends on the subject you take, and more than likely, you can't really be bothered.

All of these were never processed to remove moire.

The cameras aren't out yet. And this isn't K5 mk2s, so this isn't an indication of what the new camera can do. My guess is it'll be worth every cent of the extra you paid for.

Sir, Simi si moire? ;p

As with all cameras, should let the pictures do the talking when it arrives. Though no AA filter and excellent ISO (even now) is exciting of what's to come.

without AA revolving power of len actually boost. comtemplating if i sould sell.gxr for this??

Moire only appears when there is repeated pattern like the texture of fabrics. It is not going to show up on trees, rivers, building etc...

What interest me most is the improved AF. I have some slight issues with K-5 and DFA 50mm focusing accuracy.

Anyone wants a mint K-5? :bsmilie:

may be the new AF system have some change in hardware?
so the AF improvement will need a new model because is not something that a firmware update alone can improve.

just my guess...
I'm sure it isn't the same AF sensor...

Great news. It's a worthwhile upgrade for those K-7/K-r users and K5 owners who need to eke out every bit of performance.

I'm hanging onto my K-7 though. It's still a better camera than I am a photographer!

am an amateur pentaxian holding a k-x and da 35 f2.4

am just a noob (especially to the local community) but please do not flame me for saying this: we should let everyone share their views.. even those who blast pentax for underwhelming us (like above mentioned) with their line up

if we all sing the same tune, nothing changes.. the impetus to change and improve have always been criticism (from another point of view, constructive feedback)

to set the record straight i myself am in love with my k-x and not intending to change anything, anyway..

am not versed with any technical details, very noob myself.. but we should so quickly judge the people at pentax forums.. they too, love this brand and want it to improve

cheers, my fellow pentaxians

Well said. But I guess we shouldn't jump to the conclusion even before a product is actually out in the market :)

there is no lousy brand nowadays with the saturation of science and technology. only lazy photographers. like me. :sticktong

but i do enjoy all the opinions here. it keeps my interest alive and abreast of the latest offerings in the market.

Are you going to change to the K5 Mk II/IIs?

I think K5-II, more or less same as iPhone4 and iPhone4S :)
No upgrade for me :)
