well.. i dunno how other ppl manage it... i only using a 12MP cam and the file zise is ~20MB... and i have 1x 2TB, 1 x 3TB and 1 x 500MB ext HDD to manage... and every 2 yrs i need to buy a bigger HDD, do backup all over again to ensure i dun lose anything... a 70MB file would be crazy...

Ahahaha... I have 3 copies... 1 on the working hard drive, 2 external...

Only keep RAW files for photos that are very good in my book... I probably won't expand any effort reworking those ok ok ones.. :(

I won't disagree with you... Still, I was really fed up with the inability to turn Long Exposure NR off...

If not I think I might still be using K20D.. :)

actually there is a mod to turn off the NR in the firmware i saw somewhere(deviantart i think)... i was tempted to grab a cheapo <$300 K20D just to try... but time is no longer a lux for me... not time to shoot anyway...

The problem these days is customers want to see "NEW" features, or mind-boggling niceties that can be boosted to the general public. But when it comes to fixing the current flaws or not-so perfect features that the system have, it's deemed not interesting. People seem to think that "Oh, why bother", "Plain lazy", "still K5 body" etc.

I like this approach of trying to fix/enhance the current capabilities. I work in Support/Maintenance and sometimes recommendations of making sure the fundamentals are as robust as possible is often ignored, and have to give way to the catch-phrases the market seeks.

But Ricoh (Pentax-Ricoh) always seems wanting to make sure flaws/concerns/usability are addressed. Just look at the number of firmwares they have come up just to enhance or fix their GXR system. Granted, people may say they shouldn't release half-baked products, but I see it as an attempt to make sure Users' voices are heard and worked on.

In K5 Mark 2 and the Mark 2s, I hope they really 'fixed' those issues that made some hardcore Pentaxian move to other brands, and looking at the announcements' materials, they seem like attempting to do just that.

Let's see how it really turns out.

many move to other brands... but somehow Pentax is always on their mind... like me...hahaha... anyway i still waiting for a product that is a joint effort between Ricoh and Pentax... wonder what a GXR-K-5 combi would turn out to be...

I think for files, need to just be really selective on what to keep. Otherwise, neverending search for more HD/Backup space.

:bsmilie: ... That'll be a Frankenstein Mk IIs.

Sigh... D600 here I come :P

Hi, was originally thinking of getting the 55-300 to complement my 18-135. But now with the 18-270, should I get this instead and even ditch the 135?

The 18-135 is a nice little lens with the most commonly used FL (imho) in one lens, while IQ does not suffer too much. The DAL 55-300 is fantastic value for $ lens, IQ is great considering the price. I personally have this combination & usually I only use the 18-135 if I need the WR. I won't suggest getting the 18-270 unless convenience is your absolute top priority eg. if you only want to bring one lens out 99% of the time. The reason being I can't see the 18-270 having comparable IQ to a 18-55 + 55-300 combo or even the 18-135.

If not I think I might still be using K20D.. :) I admit that the K5 also has one up on the K20D in terms of Live View implementation though... The K20D just couldn't boost itself up too much... K5's Live View really makes all the ND filter use so much easier... Just snap it on and recompose with Live View... K20D have to unscrew, look, recompose, then screw back and hope your tripod legs or ballhead never move. :bsmilie: Those were the days!

you're referring to composing in LV with a ND110 screwed on? Pardon my suagu question, but can a K5 do that? That's something I always struggled with on my kx...

The Pentax Q10 seem to have nice colours. Awaiting for them to show case how many types of colours are available...

But the design, i felt the Pentax Q look better....

Time to save up some mojo for Q or Q10. :P

Depends on the light la... For about 10-20 minutes till after sunset, ND106 can (assuming the usual sort of sunset la, don't talk about those gloomy dark dark sunsets that don't have any sun disappearing)... Before sunset, ND110 can.

You have to go to manual mode, then boost the EV to +5 EV... Confirm can see.... :bsmilie:

Pretty disappointing that the K30 has focus peaking and the faster Prime M while the new flagships don't? Improved AF is good for sure, but has the AF point size been reduced? I have encountered many instances with my K5 where the focus just focuses on the wrong point as the AF point is too large... No issues with lowlight hunting though.

Ha . That's what I do also . Except my filter easier to mount and dismount . No need screw one . Ha

Read on the other forum that the incremental update to the K-5 can be explained on the basis that Pentax is putting more resources into another project, hence no sensor/image processor overhaul in the K-5. If true I think its a good thing, since the K-5 already is such a competent camera, putting a 24MP sensor in it wouldn't necessarily have much impact in real photographic terms, and would be more of a fancy addition to catch consumer's attention. Looking forward to the future!

I think that makes sense. Hence calling them K-5 II and IIs. There are bigger plans meant for a K-3.

Was thinking in those situations @ an event whereby you have very little room to maneouvre to change lens or you are pressed for time (e.g following a tour) and yet still need the tele-zoom distance. The 18-270 would seem to be handy for those situations.

Yes you can. But there must be sufficient light in the first place.

You probably won't need a 10 stop nd if there is not enough light for K5 liveview to work properly.
