5D II Specs

Hmm. I'm still puzzled as to why everyone is being so picky about the 5Dmk2 being a bigger 40D with fullframe sensor when in fact, the 5D is essentially a 20D body + ff sensor & bigger viewfinder.
In fact 5D is actually modelled closely after the 30D body...except the bigger size and different shaped pentaprism housing, both bodies are quite similar in design and both sport the same 2.5" LCD screen. From far, quite hard to tell them apart (esp from the back view).

Well not to start a flame war but its because of the specs of a certain D*** model released recently...

Ahhh... more company to company competition for monopoly, more benefits for the customer. Good times.. good times..

Go read the "Worst habits of Singaporeans" thread where someone mentioned the love of complaining :bsmilie:

Personally I'm more amused about how people are complaining about the specs of a camera that hasn't been announced yet. Let me join the crowd by complaining that mine will come with dust on the sensor and that it will back focus :bsmilie:

But, yeah, many are unhappy with Canon because Nikon has camera bodies with great specs. Hopefully Canon has something nice, instead of another 20D -> 30D model refresh fiasco.

Agree. Canon will either have to compete with features or price.

Canon better stop fudging around with their AF algorithms and sensors. If the AF sensor on the 5D II behaves like the one on the 40D/1D3/1Ds3, it's going to be a major disaster.

The competitor's Dxxx only cost 3.6k (before gst) at some shops. This would be hard to beat.

It will be Canon's headache, not mine, thankfully. They can always choose to lose much face and exit the semi-pro full frame market, a segment that they created. But considering that they can sell the 5D for below US$2000 during the instant rebate last month, I'm sure they can come up with something.

yeah hope so too.

I think this is extremely good news for Canon users. Nothing like a little competition to drive prices down which will benefit the end users. I'm sure that Canon will come up with something that will be at least competitive with the Nikon offerings. In the meantime, there is nothing wrong with continuing using the 5D, which is undoubtedly an excellent camera in its own right. ;)

If 5DII is going to be cheaper than D700, then i guess its features are only so-so, which means it is essentially a 40D with a FF sensor, nothing more, nothin less. The screen will still be 230k, and many Canon users will be disappointed. I rather wait and see if Canon has anything to counter nikon's D3. That camera will be the real deal.

5DII will be nothing fantastic, I predict.

That will leave us with much room to speculate on the specs of the 5Dmk3. :):(

ups for a super long speculation post:rbounce:

and there'll still be no news of mkII :bsmilie:

heheh, do you think we will reach post #1000 before the Mark 2 comes out.

:think:maybe u r rite.

the momentum in this thread is slowing.

With what Canon likes to do... "crippling features, and not cannibalising their top end products".
The new 5D Mkiii still wont be able to hold a candle to Nikon latest offerings in terms of features from D300 onwards.
Just a gut feeling. Hiaz....

What's wrong with typing it out? Its the Nikon D700.

Just being cautious :embrass: as people may think we're trying to start a brand war. Actually we are just speculating about the specs that Canon will put in, in view of the competitive environment. :)

give them 1 more month every month till canon launch.

Price very competitor

obviously targetted at the d700 which was actually tagetted at the 5dmkii

never ends/..... com on' ......... make this thread alive

#1000 before d-day

Look like we might not have to wait much longer...

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1032&message=28824559&changemode=1

date is 18 August
price is 17,000 - 20,000 RMB

so the price appear to be competitive, probably a "low-end" FF with lite features, like many have speculated.
