i am just considering to get a 350D when canon announced the 400D. the only thing that interest me from the 400D is only the dust removal system. however this is the first time canon introduce this technology so consumers won't be too sure how effective this thing is.

should i stick to my choice of a 350D or just get 400D?

blur like mad. lol.

ditto dude, dunno which one to get after the 400D was announced :dunno: . . . my head's aching already, lol! . . .

i say new technology. lol.

Use this comparison:
350D kit RP - S$1599 vs US$799
400D body RP - US$799.. i.e. estimated S$1599
400D kit RP - US$899, i.e. estimated S$1799

but S$1599 is Canon's price, so it should be roughly S$1300-S$1350 at CP,AP,MS etc for body only

yup. the only new technology is the dust sensor thingge. let's wait for more reviews before whacking. :D

i would still get the 30D.
10megapixel v 8 megapixel , doesnt mean jack.
dust... nice to have, certainly will look for it in my next body, but not a deal breaker...already used t ocleaning sensor.

but i bought my 30D because of the ergonomics. and better body, and its a better fit for my hand. ive been trying a friends 350D, and lets just say pressing a button to change aperture, SUCKS.

spot metering is also good, plus color temperature adjustment. and lets not forget 5fps AND finally, 400D still stuck at 1600 ISO. i have one more stop advantage with the 30D..

the 3200 on the cam is only software manupilation.
it simply shoots at 1600 -1stop n then push it up.
350/400D can do it too, but under PP.

pressing a button to change aperture sucks,
well, personally i like the security there.
many times i adjusted the aperture/exposure compensation w/o realizing
on my 20D, n that sucks big as i don't always look at my preview.
n when i lock the bloody wheel,
has to unlock to make adjustment.

haha.. if 400d is meant to kajiao sony's a100 and nikon's d80.. i think sony and nikon are in for some trouble... 400d seems more attractive than a100 and d80.. well well.. shall wait for 30d replacement bah... the 10d/20d/30d family of semi-pros a class above teh 300d/350d/400d family of consumer slr .... a class apart..

This 400D surely will affect a100 since the dust senor thing Canon 400D also have.... pricing should be competitive against A100... I bet Canon is trying to deny Sony the DSLR market share by countering their products.... and fight it out with Nikon.....

So Nikon might lose some mkt share if they do not have the dust thing
& IS, but Nikon long standing will win a bit of supporters still.... but buying a SLR is into system... so now, it is getting competitive and it is useful for us only.... ;p

For me, I expect the 40D (guessing this is the next model or 10D/20D/30D series) will have the dust senor and that 30D life span might be lesser than 18 months.

I usually shoot in M mode, so quite used to press that button with my thumb & dial with my index finger for changing of aperture liao.

but how to press that button if you want to keep your eyes on the viewfinder? I think this only matters to people tracking actions. for me I am used to composing in the viewfinder while thumbing the necessary aperture or compensation value.

I think it is a mater of getting used to the controls... my 33 and 300X is totally different in control but to me, I think that it is still ok..... I am use dto press and hold the button & turning the dial.... maybe more practises will be nice..... :)

I still wish I have a 30V.......... Anyone selling their 30V?? hahah.. just kidding....

I admire your dedication to film.

Hmmm I don't know about you, but I can operate my camera in complete darkness. Operating it with my eyes on the viewfinder is nothing.. Ask any Nikonians and Canon 1D-series users, I'm sure they can tell you too.. After all, I think most of the seasoned shooters do that all the time.

I guess that depends on how big your face is. if the buttons in question are half covered by your right cheek I thought it might be quite challenging. :p especially if your right thumb is not dextrous enough and need to press the buttons with your left hand.

haha you've a point there.. Not everyone's thumbs can reach the position. XD Anyway I've noticed that for the 400D they've improved the position of buttons on the back.. Guess it'll be easier..

I do not really press the camera against my face.... I am using the battering ram... opps.. battery grip with E1 hands strap, and I can actually still control and press AV and turn the dial.... ;)

Maybe just a bit of trail and error and you can find a good footing and resting grip for your hands and finger.... :)
