Say, I would have named the same three movies (but probably not in the same sequence) but you have beaten me to this
1. Saving Private Ryan - Too many war movies glorify war. This is one of the few good films out there that show us the disturbing scenes not commonly seen in a war film - bodies decapitated by machine gun fire even as the troops try to land on the beach, soldiers getting blown up to little shreds by bombs, neck sprouting blood like a fountain after being hit by a sniper, soldiers reduced by sheer terror to nerveless wrecks ... Such scenes are still very disturbing to me, but by reflecting on the cruelties and harshness of the war, it made the duties carried out by the few more real, and more humane somehow.
2. The Rock - Darn ... I had a LD for this movie but no longer have a LD player. The climatic showdown between the commandoes and the renegades in the tower is just mind wrecking with its intensity, pace and adrenalin. The parallel between the desperate fight on the island and the oncoming of the figher planes with bombs to annihilate the entire island was just breath stopping. That said, I gotta get myself a dvd version of it soon, before i forget again,
haha.
3. 300 - The chereography of the fighting scenes are one of the most memorable to date - it's like watching matrix once again, except this is set in ancient times.
Great movies, great thread !
