Hi, I find that my CZ 28-85 is not that sharp no matter how hard I tried to focus on my 40D, with or without live view, especially for potrait. Can any senior here enlighten should I send the lens for a check up or is it just me....... Any advise to help this situation?

Here are some of my shots. (Can't get the image in....)

I use 40D too with adaptor. To eliminate adaptor issue, shoot at infinity and check all 4 corners. If left or right side softer always than the other, its adaptor not lens.

Thinking of selling away all my ZF lenses.. ZF25, ZF35, ZF100.
Let me know if u're keen.

Yes. Want to switch to ZE.

frankly, not worth the change as it is the same lens with different mount (plus some electronics contacts). optically it will be the same.

for a moment, i thought ZE can autofocus but it is not right?

I bought 100/2 ZF today and noticed that it creates serious purple fringing at the edge of roofs and buildings and some cable become purple! This is most visible in the parts of the photo that are far away.
What do you think? Is this normal for this lens? Do I have a bad sample?

Hanzo...IMHO, your 28-85 lens reminds me of the same quality of my Nikon zooms...when I moved to CZ primes I saw what I was missing in photos...I'm afraid that CZ zooms deliver the same quality as other zooms because lens makers have to engineer for a range of focal lengths rather than a single focal length...so you give up some quality to get the wide range...

If you are shooting at wide-open, yes, purple fringing (PF) is normal. If you are using a later Nikon DSLR, PF can be corrected via camera settings.

To make you feel a better, PF can be seen with both my 85mm f1.4 ZF and 50mm f2 ZF at their widest aperture.

i did not know that purple fringing (PF) is normal. is it serious purple fringing?

Indeed the photo was taken at 2.8 with a D3. I made some tests this morning and from F4 it's almost normal again.
I have used the 50/2 ZF extensively and never had any purple fringing issue so far!
Thank you for the feed back.

Guess most have selective retention or simply discard certain info.....
Let me re-post this again:

I thinking many here fail to accept this fact.

Simply, ZF did not use apo-chromatic glass. Old Contax Macro-Planar 100/2.8 was also non-apo. Except, most didn't notice fringing cos max aperture of f2.8.

Only the Contax 645 120/4 Macro Planar is APO and its medium format.

Imagine the price tag on an apo glass.
