beautifully done weekh,
not only the power of mf , the power of the shooter itself :)

cheers

Nice shots, how did you do that?

Have been tempted by Zeiss lenses for quite some time liao but feel it is quite painful to spend a huge sum of money on manual lenses. Subscribed to Digitallyod and hopefully will not be poisoned deeper... :dunno:

AF lens repair charge more than MF lens, and more difficult(e.g. repair USM or SDM motor, auto-ring, CPU,,,), then,,, u may feel big pain later...:bsmilie:

cannot just consider the cost of purchase, must include maintainence and repair cost later... AF lens 2nd drop value fast also.

135L drop from 1.4K to 1.1K, 2nd hand maybe 900+-1k, 50/1.2L from 2.2k drop to 1.8K,, still drop ... how about 50/1.2 AL SSC?

zeiss 135/2? how?

some taiwanese called it lens econimics.

That is an interesting thought

50/1.2 AL SSC? What is that lens? Zeiss 135/2? Is there such a lens?

Howcome AF lens depreciate in value faster?

i can sell u my Ef-S focusing screen meant for manual focus if u want. dun need it anymore.

Went diving, so just saw this. Thanks, but, still prefer to try to overcome with practices. I very hard neck type....:bsmilie:

saving up for the ZE 50/1.4...... hope it will not appear too soon:sweat:

Howcome AF lens depreciate in value faster?

i think it might just be because of the difficulty and cost of maintenance of AF lenses.

back in the 80-90s, folk preferred mercs because any 'ah-kow mechanic' could fix one up. while staying clear of audis and beemers because they just had too much electronics to deal with as they aged.

that said, it depends on the quality and availability of the lens. the nikkor 'monster' 28-70/2.8 actually appreciated during its time.

And because the Camera companies made them redundant with new lenses & electronic features. Nikon AF lens without D, with D, G type, Silent-wave focusing, VR, push-pull type zoom, ring zoom, etc. Each push to upgrade results in old AF lenses being sold, and their values lowered. After all, its only plastic, glass & electronic circuity.

Manual ( almost always metal helicoid lens ), with its emphasis on mechanical & cosmetic quality, were designed and built for endurance. Hence, they have value retention. If u can find the Nikon and Leica R brochures from the 80s, almost all brag about being built & tested to the extremes. Cared for properly, they hold their cost.

My 105 2.5 AIS still cost the same today as 20years ago when I bought it 2nd hand mint.

Wow.

50/1.2 AL SSC is the best canon FD mount 50mm prime(match with nikon famous 58/1.2), cost about 1K USD today in 2nd hand market, its MTF even better than current EF 50/1.2L (why? glass different, PB galss get high contrast and high resolution)so, many taiwanese and hongkee modified its FD mount (include FD 50/1.2L) to eos mount or NIKON mount, and sell their EF 50/1.2L and nikon 50/1.2

zeiss 135/2 is the contax carl zeiss T* 135/2 planar (2K USD always in 2nd hand market), same, zeiss 85/1.2 50yr or 60yr JAH can kill canon 85/1.2L. . .

Leica R series still the best for canon DSLR and nikon DSLR (sony DSLR and Pentax DSLR now also can use Leica R lens)
