Just got the Zeiss 50 1.4 yesterday from OP heh heh....I know this is considered one of the "lesser" Zeiss lenses but still, I thought it was clearly another dimension from any similar AF lenses I have tried. Very taken with it actually....very beautiful initial portrait shots even.

The ones I really lust after now are the 85 1.4 and/or the 100 f2 macro: I tested them too, and they are phenomenal. And I've used the Nikon 85 1.4 before, and own the 105 dc, but the Zeiss seem to be in a different class.

I realise much of this is user preference in the way a lens renders a face, a scene or the background, but by God, I'm in love  Manual focusing does take time to get used to but the D700 eases you into it somewhat.....

Sorry for the rambling heh heh....

I see I've poisoned u deeply with my 50maco:) U hv a unique 105DC Nikkor. Shud post some pics here and show. Let's do a comparison test one day against the ZF 100.

Heh heh Chua,

yeah, you have. I'll point you out to my wife when she looks for someone to blame :bsmilie:

You're right, the 100 f2 macro and the 105 dc lens would be a very interesting comparison. Not that one will necessarily be "better," but it would be useful to look at the differences. The 105 dc is also a beautiful portrait lens (as you saw yesterday... ;)), and stands its ground in its own way.

wow so bright and beautiful colours !... I got to turn my notebook the other way to shield my eyes!

good pic.

just thinking. is there anyway to tweak the D700 controls to get more Zeiss like colours ? the standard picture control renders my nikkor and ZF colours similarly. The colours are sometimes too close together for my taste

Zaliariff, the 50 1.4 was bought for around $780 I think.....I think it's woth it at that price!

Calling all ZF/ZS/ZK users.....

hi digitalxd1, those couple of photos looks like they were shot in Moscow? Arbat Street?
i was there recently... wet and rainy during my stay... so didn't get those nice sunny shots.

Great pictures.

One question pleassee.

Is it easier to manual focus on a shorter FL lens than a longer FL one?

short FL more depth of field aside, also depends on max aperture of lens.

I dun think 85 1.4 is easier than 100 f2.

but 35f2 is definitely easier than 50f1.4.

Hi All,

I have an 85 1.4, now considering 50 1.4, need your all opinion on getting the 50, thanks in advance.:)
