Hello,

I have been following this thread with very interest but I still have some questions about Zeiss Lens.
I shoot with a S5 Pro just for hobby and I really shot candids 70% of the time and portraits 10% - so overall, I spend 80% of the time shooting people and my wife and little daughter most;)
I have sold recently the 85 f/1.8, a Sigma 30 f/1.4 to help me finance my next purchase dedicated only for people. I want a fabulous lens for that. At present I own a 105 f/2.5 AIS (recently acquired) and the 50 f/1.8.
I started with a toss between the Nikon 85 /1.4 and the 105 DC but then a thread at Nikon cafe about MF opened my eyes and I started to consider Zeiss and Voigtlander as an alternative.
I´m almost settled for the Zeiss 85 f/1.4 as a portrait lens but realised I need something wider for portraits in small rooms. My question is what do you suggest? Is the 35 f/2 good for portraits and candids indoors or do you suggest the 25 f/2.8? The 28 f/2 is out of my league if I want the 85.
Any other suggestions?
I also shoot the S5 without any MF aid and I guess this is going to be a very hard experience... but that is one I´m willing to take the risk;)
Thank you

Does anyone have a price indication of the Zeiss lens in ZF? Hoping to get 35f2 or 25f2.8. Thanks for the help! :D

Anyone saw any units of ZF 50mm Makro around in any shops ?

I bought someZF lenses from TK Photo some 4 months back. Prices as below:

ZF Distagon T* 2.8/25 $1,150+$68*
ZF Makro Planar T* 2/50 $1,430+$75*
ZF Makro Planar T* 2/100 $2,150+75*
* B+W MRC UV010 filters.

Last price i ask from TK foto few days ago was ZF- 25mm F2.8 - $1380
Price increase... :(

i am quite new here. Just curious how do you compare the zeiss 50mm 1.4 planar against the voigtlander 58mm f1.4 for portraits? i own the 50mm f1.4 ZF and a few old ai-s nikkors

Hi fellow Zeissers

Am very curious to know about the ZF Zeiss lenses here. Are they specificlly for DSLR
cameras ? Have heard from my friend that some Canon DSLRs can mount my older Zeiss
lenses. It would be great coz it will save me cost of purchase if decided to switch over
to digital.Any advice would be greatlly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

i own both lenses.
Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4 is much sharper at F1.4 -F2
for portrait shots i prefer nokton 58/1.4 :)

okies. zeiss i notice has this 3-d sort of feel to the images. any more ppl have tried both?

From Chiif, I understand that Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4 had a "focus confirm" function (when subject is in focus) that will show a "green light" at the bottom left of viewfinder. I also have the confirmation that the Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4 supprt iTTL flash.

Any kind bro / sister pls advice on the following:
1. Does Zeiss len has similar "focus confirmation" function?
2. Does Zeiss len support iTTL for Nikon Flash?

The focus confirmation works for all lenses, whether chipped or not. I use it sometimes on my manual lenses -- Nikon AIS or ZF.

I don't know if iTTL is officially supported by ZF lenses (prob not since the lens is unable to convey distance info to the cam). However, I've used the ZF with SB600 and have no problems whatsoever with the exposure control. So, it seems to work nicely.

1. YES and
2. YES

to my in-experience eyes, Zeiss ZA 85/1.4 is sharper at F1.4 compare to ZF 85/1.4
here is a pic of the lens :)

Yes & No.

I understand Nikon has disabled all non pro bodies to use manual AIS lenses. So D70, D80, D40 etc cannot meter or show AF confirmation unless lens comes with a chip. so only the Voigt 58 1.4 with the chip can be used on lesser Nikon DSLRs. ZF will not show metering or AF info with lessser DSLRs.

But ZF will work fully with semi pro and pro bodies ( D300 to D3x ). Cos the user can assign lens focal length and max aperture to Nikon F-AIS lenses and the camera body will then allow full metering and AF confo.

U must be using the Sony A900 ! :)

Sofar, anybody tested ZF on D3x yet ? Can ZF keep up ?
