HI Wee
Absolutely does G 28/2.8,45/2,90/2.8 better than any contax Zeiss SLR manual or N AF lens??

And how about N series 24-85mm/3.5-4.5?better or worse than MM 28-85/3.3-4??
Thanks

I'm no expert in this area but this wat I know:

By default of the SLR design, the lens has been compromised due to the mirror. Thus the G lenses are supposed to be better than the SLR lenses.

But I may like SLR WA better than the non-SLR lenses. Due to the extreme promixity of the rear of non SLR WA lens to the sensor/film, vignetting will be very pronounced. It will not go away even if u stop down. But for the SLR WA, vignetting can go away once u stop down the lens.

Not sure about N series vs the MM lenses. I'm sure there will be some good lenses and some not so good lenses in both series.

I'm looking for either the 35-70 or 28-85 CZ zoom! The images are fantastic man! Beat the Canon EF 24-70 L.

See here for a high resolution sample of an image taken by the CZ zoom!!!

Looking for C/Y mount and not the N series. Don't think the N series can be used with adapter.

Walked into CP this evening with my cam hanging over my shoulder. One sharp eyed salesman noticed the Zeiss lens mounted on my cam and immediately asked if I would like to get their remaining lenses which are on offer price.
I thought there could be a 21mm but instead found the relatively rare CZ 35-70mm !!!! No prawns, fish also good lah!!! Moreover got it at a bargain price!

:)

Did more testing on these 2 lenses.
Conclusion for this round:

The bokeh of the CZ is better. Color is also more pleasing.

weekh

thanks again for another good test of CZ.
the 35-70 corner resolution is to be expected of a cz lens.
Contax users do not expect anything less. You got a good buy. :)

Wow! Didn't know this zoom has such great resolving power.

Not just resolving power. The other properties are also very good. Widely recognised to be better than the 24-70L lens!

Another interesting thing about this lens is that it has a macro function! At 35mm, you can actually extend the lens out as though u are using an extenstion tube!!!

My main complain is that it is not a f2.8 lens.

Also the lens feels a little odd. It is longest at 35mm and shortest at 70mm.

weekh

yah, at macro setting down to 25 centimetres closest focusing distance.
10 elements in 10 groups.
getting a 67mm filter for it?

salvage the filter from the brand new Tamron 28-75 which I just bought a while ago. Tamron is a very good lens but the Zeiss is so much better!

Hey Weekh, I was at TCW last sat (2nd Apr) and saw this guy in the shop with an EOS1D with a CZ mounted, was that you? :)

On the topic of CZ's sharpness/contrast.. what do u guys think of this test photo? Its an old old lens that I'm messing around with.. pardon the boring composition...
