<wonglp> Traveling with my mirrorless pen

By the time the sun was too bright for any further shoots, took a walk back, and it was very scenic too.

Seopjikoji, is a place that's brought to life since a Korean drama was featured in it, All in House. Starring Song Hye-Kyo & Lee Byung-Hun, this show was one of my wife's favorite, I only remember how Song Hye-Kyo look like haha. On map it show quite a bit of distance from where we stayed in Phoenix Island, but actually when we drove, it led us very close to it. We actually could have walked there haha. Here's a shot of Seopjikoji. There were loads of tourists bus.

Without the hoards of tourist, the church where All in House was filmed can be rather romantic. Especially with skies so blue!

From certain angles, it's possible to see both the church as well as Mt Halla. The highest mountain in Jeju.

Thanks for comments Manita, you should, I like Jeju very much, there's much for the children to enjoy too!

Here's one shot of an old lady who works on seaside to dry seaweed, perhaps that's the humpback is a result of her years of toil.

Thanks Daoyin! Here's one of my favorite of the trip which shows the colors of autumn in Jeju as well as epitomizes the beauty of Jeju Mt Halla. Shot taken on Yeounsil Trail, perhaps the easiest for my folks to climb as well, though didn't reach the top.

A couple more on winter colors. All from Yeongsil Trail. A total of about 6km of foot trail, with the first 2.4km cars of limited numbers are allowed in each time. We were lucky enough to be able to drive past that 2.4km as the folks and kids would be tired by then. We probably did about 1km over before we head back, it was a really nice walk nonetheless, not too steep, and the weather was so nice that we didn't sweat.

I went around checking out Oly cameras in Peninsula after visiting this thread....damn  I normally don't pay attention to them at all....

Seems a good alternative when I am travelling with the young ones and doesn't want to lug around my FBO...and I gotta say your skills

Thank you wolfton for the kind comments, I'm still very much learning. I sold my DSLR 3 years ago for the Pen, as I had a traveling job, I actually improve much more with mirrorless cameras as it made photography really fun for me. It's been great so far. Though some trip I carry 2 Pens/mirrorless cameras and quite a few lenses, it's almost like FBO liao haha. Tried switching back to DSLR, but the stint didn't last that long:embrass:

The walk on Yeongsil Trail is scenic, though it would become nicer if we had proceeded longer.

Here's a waterfall among many of the waterfall that can be found in Jeju, this is probably the most famous one. And one that flows into the sea makes it more than unique. Tough to get a clean shot with water droplets falling on my ND filter. Waited 10minutes before getting a clear view without tourists.

Hi there. Just stumbled onto your thread and I like your pictures. I also got myself an OMD with a a Panny 20/1.7. I'm looking to get a couple of lenses and am considering the 45/1.8 as well as the kit lens 12-55. My subjects are similar to yours (with half the quality!) when I travel and in Singapore, I will take pictures of my nephews and my cat and dog. I noticed that u posted a lot of images taken with the 7-14 and the 12-35.

I'm a complete novice with lenses so any advice is good as there's just so many and I'm clueless as to what each does!

Hello humdrumtown, welcome to CS, and thanks for your maiden post and kind comments here :)

The 12-35 was quite recently acquired like 3 months, so the recent posts uses quite a bit on that. 7-14 was slightly longer. I do use typical 7mm all the way to 75mm mostly for travel and sometimes bit more than that.

20mm is an excellent lens, just a little slow in AF. The 45 is better in that aspect as well as being a better portrait lens, you do need a longer working distance. I actually do have a flickr set on the 45mm lens here, some are used quite a bit on this thread as well. 12-50 is a good kit and you should use that and learn about the different focal lengths as well as play with different apertures to control the effects you want from your camera.

Here's a dedicated info on getting best out of EM5. Hope that helps.

Being a novice, on CS we have a wealth of information, such as those here.

There's a newbies corner as well with sticky thread.

And a critique corner here, which you can post and members can give advice on how to improve.

If you paiseh, we also have a dedicated m43 sub forum as well. And there's a thread which has all the olympus pictures, feel free to post there too.

Or let me know if you face any problems, just PM me, cheers!

Thanks for the welcome and the links! Appreciate it.

Yah. Me very paiseh, so while I've joined CS for 2 years, I was just a lurker and only admired the nice pictures and salivate at the nice kit from forumers! As for my photography skills, I am a novice with what lenses to use since I've always just used kit lens (or a PNS). Before I took the plunge and got the OMD, I was thinking of getting the Sony RX100 so that I didn't need to think about what lenses to buy. Just PNS!

Anyway, back to lenses, there's just too many to get with my limited $$$. As for the OMD's kit lens, I don't have it (as I bought the OMD only with the 20/1.7), so I was wondering if it's worth it to get a pre-owned one for $250, as well as a 45/1.8 prime. I think the kit lens isn't great but it's a good all-rounder, especially if I don't want to spend so much on multiple lenses. Maybe I'll sell the 20/1.7 to fund a 45/1.8, which as you said, we need a longer focal length, and I agree.

For $250 it's worth it, very wide for a kit, (24mm equivalent), does better macro than any m43 kit, electronic zoom gd for video, manual zoom as well which is good for stills. Have fun, and 20mm & 45mm are both popular lens for their sharpness, so it's easy to sell if you really don't get used to the focal length. anyways, you can set the kit to 45 and go cat or portrait shooting to have a feel if you like it, and imagine you will get a sharper image and blurrer background :bsmilie:

Continuing my Jeju trip, haven't update for a while ;p

#236 Jusangjeolli, Jungmun, Seogwipol-si, Jeju, South Korea.

Jusangjeolli, volcanic rocks which are mainly hexagonal looks was formed when the lava from Mt.Hallasan erupted into the sea of Jungmun. They looked so perfectly hexagonally shaped that one wonder if the rocks were actually handmade. Such is the wonders of nature. Undoubtedly, Jeju was named new 7 wonders of the world, a title conferred on 11/11/11.
There's actually 2 sides to this, but ran out of battery here, managed to do one long exposure shot with B+W ND110 filter. The waves were really strong and pounding on the rocks as can be seen.

#239 Changjeyeon Falls #2, Jungmun, Seogwipol-si, Jeju, South Korea.

There are totally 3 waterfalls here, first one only after a heavy rainfall, I went to 2nd one as it's the easiest for my folks, 300m from the first one. The last one is another 500m which I skipped as didn't want them to wait that long.

EM5+Panasonic 12-35mm, ND106. As usual the filter got wet pretty fast on the long exposure :bsmilie:

That's all I have for Jeju. In the midst of preparing my recent Hokkaido winter trip, thanks for viewing so far.
