Changdeokgung palace, 2nd royal palace after Gyeongbokgung, completed in 1412, but burnt down by Japanese in 1592, reconstructed but was heavily damaged again during Japanese occupation of Korea, 1910-1945. Conferred the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1997 for the historical significance, the blend between the Joseon dynasty architecture and the garden design. there's a Huwon garden (aka Secret Garden) which is open to limited numbers per day and I was late, tickets were all sold out...

#211 One of the many Halls, Injeongjeon

A crowded day. Injeongjeon is the throne hall with major state affairs happening here.

Situated in the quietest part of the inner court, this was queen's bed chamber.

The scene is very much like a scene in a Japanese temple ground. I just came back from a 7-day trip in Kyoto. Like the composition and the balance of colors.

Thanks Richard, look forward to see Kyoto in autumn!

Seon-yudo Park, a small island along Hangang river. There used to be a water purification plant located at this site which closed a few years ago. Seonyudo Island Park is connected to land by the Seonyugyo Bridge (a pedestrian only bridge) and by Yanghwadaegyo Bridge. Woke up early to shoot sunrise, but a dissappointing one.

Will be sharing some shots of Jeju soon, we spent 3 nights in Jeju and self drive with English speaking GPS (not English menu), quite easy to use if you can find the telephone numbers of the place you want to go. Mostly it was ok to find it. The GPS in Korea are very nice and informative, and Jeju is very nice to drive as the traffic is still manageable, unlike in Seoul. One thing I like in South Korea is the maps and tour brochures that you can pick up in airport, hotels, etc are very informative and helpful. It even has sections that tells you what's useful if you are traveling alone, as a couple, with old folks and young family. We did some planning from Singapore but when we arrive here, the brochures changes much of our planning. So much so that I still keep some of them in case friends need it next time (I often dump the travel brochures).

Here's one that we chose from the brochure and went, it's certainly non-touristy and off the main road, was hard to find on GPS even, luckily we did. There are 368 Oreums in Jeju, or volcanic cones/peaks. Abu Oreum is one of the easiest ones and recommended for older folks to hike, about 50m to ascend, which I was glad we did. The best sunset we had seen in Jeju. A short moment to last, a lasting memory etched.

#216 Sunset viewed from Abu Oreum, with a view of Mount Hallasan, the highest mountain in Jeju.

At the centre of Abu Oreum was the crater with a ring of pine trees formed in unison. It looks and feels like some mystical spiritual forest.

Pheonix Island, Jeju, the place we stayed which is located like a small peninsula rather than an island as the name would suggest. It offers a great view of Seongsan Ilchulbong, commonly known as Sunrise Peak. Took me about 10min to walk to this place from hotel and was almost lost as it was pitch dark and I could hear dogs barking from near distance. Sunrise was really early then, shot was taken at 5.22AM. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to take the Seongsan sunrise peak from a distance. The building on the right is Glass House, a small club that houses some art gallery as well as restaurant. Good place to chill out as well.

The winding path that leads back to the hotel, so quiet, so peaceful, amidst the strong pounding waves that rush ashore.

Thanks CS7890 for comments and dropping by!

Thanks wolfton, Olympus OOC jpgs are very good, I din have to use my backup RAW files for this trip.

Here's one on Seongsan Ilchulbong long exposure shot. Hope you both like it.

Seongsan Ichulbong, also known as sunrise peak. One of the triple crown UNESCO World Heritage site. 180m tall and with a 600m wide crater, it was formed some 5000yrs ago upon a volcanic eruption. Certainly a sight/site not to be missed, one of the biggest highlights of Jeju. Shot done at similar location, Pheonix Island.

#221, Seongsan Ilchulbong, Unesco World Heritage

EM5+Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8, 10 stops ND, black card technique.

The sunrise at Phoenix Island was nice that day, in fact, the best I've seen in Jeju coz that's the only day I woke up for it haha, and luckily it was brilliant. The last shot to share of the brilliant sunrise here.

#222 The morning at Phoenix Island

EM5+Panasonic 12-35, 10stops ND filter, black card technique, single shot Jpeg. Had to remove some flotsam from the shot as it was rather distracting.
