Were them taken by RAW or JPEG from camera?
The macau photos look nice for me.
I also own a FZ50 and like it much also for macro shot.

Thanks for the comment, the Macau photos were taken in JPEG.

All shots taken in the PC Show 2008@ Suntec with a FZ50 + FL36 (Handheld). Some are taken overhead with liveview ( standing behind the crowd )

Actually with response to the thread title, I really wanna know why you guys love your FZ50.

I myself own one but I must admit I do bear a few grudges towards it, and try to close one eye to its limitations. One of it will be its limited ability to work in low-light conditions don't you think so?

Hahaha.... Personally I believe every camera have it limitation, the FZ50 is no exception hence it is up to the photographer work around it.

One of the strength of a FZ50 is it TTL flash, have you tried to attached it to your FZ50? Compared to a lot of PnS or Prosumer camera this feature is a godsend in low-light conditions, as it not only allow you to extend your flash range but also do "bounced" flash conditions to capture the ambient light.

Just my 2 cents... :)

haha not yet though. can't fund for a similar TTL flash that you have. hmmm but out of curiosity, what makes you stop at fz50 and not go on having a dlsr? or maybe you're treating the panny as a back-up cam?

it's okay not disclosing the reason!

It is no secret, like I say before every camera have its limitation a DSLR is no exception either. Personally having taking it on several oversea trips, I find a FZ50 a great travel companion. :)

Curious what was your reason for getting a FZ50 instead of a DSLR? I don't think it is the price as it cost nearly as much as DSLR (with standard kit lens).

the tricky part is that i got mine as a second-hand unit. so... it may cost as much as a dlsr, but to a second-hand one, yes it is.

i wanted to step up from the compact cam level after my interest in photography rose but my gaping pocket limited me from touching a dslr. hence, my fz50. so now i'm looking around at any necessary stuff that i need.

but i guess for start i do need a tripod and ttl flash eh? hehe

Well I think a tripod & TTL Flash is a good investment for you as it could you use with other 4/3 DSLR. Luckily I purchase my tripod last year when I was in Taiwan, else most likely most of my night shots would be ruin... :)

I do like much about my FZ50 but the low light condition is really a headache for me.
Is the TTL flash so good that it can compare with entry level dslr for low light condition?
I have never used flash for my baby yet.
Now I am struggling about getting a flash or getting another entry level dslr.
Due to the new member in my family, I might need to use the camera more in low light condition.
Any comment?

If you are comparing FZ50 to a DSLR in a low light(high ISO) environment, I would say the FZ50 would hardly stand a chance.

Small sensor + High ISO = Noise. What an external TTL flash would do is to let you redirect (bounce) your flash, to allow you to take in ambient light with a lower ISO. What I have done with baby shots was to bounce the flash from the ceiling and use a "bounce card" for catchlights. Hope it useful... :)

Thanks for your reply.
But I think that I will try to find one second hand FL36 to try out first.
If it still cannot meet my requirement then I will switch to DSLR.

Hi Anson my friend, it is time you upgrade. With your great skill, imagine what you can do with my D200 as compare to a noob like me. Please bring us to shoot babe the next time round, dun just keep it for youeself.

Thanks for your reply.

Glad to be of service.. My advise is to play around with the TTL flash function first before purchasing a dslr. To me it alone is worth the value of the FZ50. ;)

Care to share what filters you guys are using currently on your FZ50? I only have a C-PL and UV filter on :D

Sure.. I am using C-PL, UV, ND & Marco + wide angle filters/lens. :)

which ND filter are you using? i understand the higher the number, the shallower your DOF will be and the slower your shutter speed is... right?

I am using a Hoya NDx2 filter, I mainly use it in very sunny days to reduce the light for a slower shutter speed. I find it especially useful when taking waterfalls shots ... :)

any recommendations Anson on where and what brand of 3rd party ttl flash is good? i can't pocket enough for the widely used FL36.

I would like to know that also.
Not so confidence to buy a second hand unit.
Afraid that it will spoilt very soon once I have bought that.
But it is too expensive to buy a new one.
