How about the good old 105mm F2 DC. You can have additional fun playing with the DC control while taking pics of your boy.

The poison keeps adding... and I actually on a budget looking for a 30-35mm and 85-130mm lens.... :dunno::sweat:

As mostly taking his pic at home, sometime found that 50mm might be too long..... was looking at Nikon 35mmf/2.... or should I go lower... 28mm,24mm...20mm???

Have you ever think of the following

200mmf2 and AIS noct 58mmf1.2

I'd give the Sigma 30mm f1.4 a high rating as well.

One of the best performer in its class, value for money and quality is consistent.

And that will be Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF and Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 100mm f/2 ZF!:)

next year New Year toto draw sole winner I will re-visit this lens.... :sticktong

anyway should be down to either Nikon 35mm f/2 or Aigma 30mm f/1.4.... the bank account is pointing to Nikon currently....but maybe someday save enough, don't mind getting both....

that's more like it.... let me go read up...

Hahaha.. I think the Sigma 30/1.4 is worth considering but if you want something slightly wider then can consider the Sigma 24/1.8.

okie bro.... for now, I will stick with the Nikon 35/2... mainly because of budget... maybe later will try the Sigma 30/1.4......... can also save money on the 85mm for now as I have the Tokina 100/f2.8 macro... use that for potrait first lor.... no $$ like that one........ but now mainly using 50/1.8....

I am using the D200 now bro.... better than my previous D50 for the BB shot... focus faster, shoot faster, give better output.... or maybe I no skill, so need a better cam... :embrass:..... bioing FF cam... but that will be in the future... will invest in lens if got the $$$ now.... now looking at wide angle prime(for landscape) and a longer prime (for shot not possible to use legs as zoom).... any advise??....... please don't poison me a a few K lens again....

I'm about post a series of FF tests with prime lenses vs D300 + 17-55 combo. I think if you're going FF, then 14-24/2.8 and 24-70/2.8 are the way to go. Existing lenses don't seem to work very well over FF especially for the sides and corners.

If you are not very picky then the pic is still acceptable for general viewing. :)

On top of which, if you never print them at more than S8R, the prints are very acceptable..... before the digital age, we never pixel peep.

Likewise, if you have never owned or used or compare pro lens with the consumer equivalents, you need never worry ;)

With the power to pixel peep at the touch of a button even immediately after you have taken the shot, who's not picky nowadays? Buy D3, buy D700, buy 14-24/2.8, buy 24-70/2.8!! ;p

I believe your current 50mm1.8 should be enough for you just use the window light and reflector will do.

simi reflector.... :dunno:.... this few time, I shot my BB at nite, in the room, with just the bed lamp on.... not even the main room light.... testing out the cloudy WB and the grey card WB.... with the 50mm1.8.... you reckon I should go for the 50mm1.4 or the 85mm/1.4?? Just for that extra stop... :dunno:

test it first no need to get f1.4 at the moment best with tripod and cable release.
use a mirror to direct the light also can lah.:D

Hmmm.. I think 50mm or 85mm may be too long and hard for you to shoot. I find the best focal length to be around 24-35mm on DX. How old is BB? Maybe bumping ISO to 800 or 1600 or using bounced flash is an option? I was already using bounced flash on mine since he was 6 month old and direct flash since 10 month old, I was already using studio strobes + light box/umbrella. ;p

Sometimes you may be able to capture some shots when you anticipate he's going to stay still.

I managed to capture this shot at shutter speed of 1/3s using D60 kit lens.
