What is your answer?

Actually, for me, it's quite the other way round. I have Pentax snobbery. I'll usually ask my friends why are they using Canon or Nikon and they usually don't quite dare challenge me knowing my setup.

I started with a Pentax film slr recommend by the salesman who says it is value for money. As a nobie, after using it , happy and naturally continue to use Pentax brand.

Same with me. I started with a K-mount camera called Cosina then moved on to Chinon, and finally a Pentax and stayed on as I had a number of K-mount lenses by then. I still have my Chinon CP-7m and a couple of Ricohs.

I always tell my friends the same thing. I told them I roll dice.

My elder brother bought the K1000 in 1975.
The cam is still with me.
History speaks for itself.

My first pentax body is manual P3, sometime in 1986, followed by SFX and then MZ7. Still having these bodies with me. SFX, using as paper weight.:bsmilie:

Only zoom lens, 28-80 or 28-105 vivitar. Never had prime before those days:bsmilie:

Today, still pentax.

Nowadays, this type of salesman very rare. :D

Extinct liao. When I first started I was recommended Cosina and when I decided to upgrade, the same salesman recommended Chinon. When I got to know MS Color, they recommended Pentax and I have stayed with the brand

Because I'm a masochist, and Pentax delivers it in spades with its flash system.
It feels much more pleasurable when I pull off something after repeated failures. :bsmilie:

wa, so many reply, anyway, bros, this is just a thread to provide answer to those snob who question our correct choice where we dun even bother to question theirs.
So no need take those tounge in cheek answer seriously, in fact it provide us with more option to answer it in a cooler way. :)

I will tell them that I was a Canon and Nikon user before.
Ditto here.
Making this statement kinda throws some of C&N people off-track when they start their ramble.

A funny story:
There is this colleague of mine. 5D Mk II owner, who loves to poke at me on my choice of camera after my Canon 10D.
I had bought a red K-x first and it got called a toy camera. Fine.
My K-5 was called a Ferrari with a poor engine. Fine x2.
One day, another colleague brought along a D90. Canon-owner here called me over and tried to show me a "cameraman's camera'.
Went on rambling about its CLS system and multi-exposure. Asked me if me K-5 had it. I said yes for multi-exposure. He goes, "WTF?" and tested my camera.
After which went on cursing and swearing that his much-vaunted 5D does have this feature (not that I find it a particularly important usage for myself).
Just to rub it in, shared with him that my red toy camera (red K-x) has multi-exposure as well. That sent him off his rockers.
Some people are just literally in bed with their camera. Me, the camera I chose works the same way I chose my motorbikes last time: functional, reliable and value for money. Although sometimes I look for that killer feature as well.

Nowadays, this type of salesman very rare. :D
Another funny story.
I had updated about Challenger selling more K-r colors as well as the K-5.
The salesman at IMM chatted awhile with me and mentioned that the K-5 is a good camera. Just that many customers come in with Canon or Nikon in mind due to marketing. But the K-5 is really a value for money camera.
And this was before I mentioned I already owned a K-5.
So would agree with rare but not extinct yet. :P

Maybe the salesman is one of our very own pentaxians.. hahaha

sigh... interesting thread but seriously, i have as much sentimental feelings for my camera as i have for my black and decker power drill...

at the end of the day, its a tool. its valuable for what it can do. thats it.

Just give them fengwei's number. He can settle it. :D

Hehe, actually I did convert many CN users to Pentaxians, not to say so many newbies ;) I guess Pentax should give me a 645D FOC ;p:cool:

If you find the 645D too big for your hand, I am glad to hold it for you.;p

zomg, what attracted me to Pentax DSLRs was the MX function, really. Cause I was into alternative photography before jumping into the digital zone, and love to take mx shots! :D

Give the man the free 645D... because of his pics... I bought my 1st Pentax DSLR 6 years ago... I am going for my 4th.

You may be right in terms of your logic. But does it work in reality? Aren't most corresponding products from Canikon more expensive than their Pentax equivalents? Should they not be cheaper then being more well demanded and sold in higher volume?

An local Pentax agent cannot rely on "low volume, high margin" and survive these days. The internet has made it too easy for people to buy Pentax stuff online if it is substantially less pricey. Respectfully, i don't think that an local agent relying on such a marketing style will succeed now.

Canon and Nikon are far larger entities than Pentax and have correspondingly higher marketing and promotion budgets. They are volume sellers and spend a large proportion of marketing to build and maintain market and mindshare. As the top imaging companies, they cater for larger market segmentation and obviously adopt prestige pricing for their enthusiast and pro level gear. Naturally somebody has to pay for this, that's why their products command a premium.

With regards to your second point, obviously you haven't been a Pentax user long enough because if did, you would have experienced firsthand how Jebson and Jesson and Shriro marketed and promoted Pentax locally. :thumbsd:
