using manfrotto 485B with 484RC2 head. heavy, but amazing tripod in terms of setting and packing up. well worth the weight, if u ask me.

Understand the tripod mentioned here are all high end ones. I am a beginner, so am not prepared to spend so much on it (cause I am poor too, lol). So is those carre four cheapo tripod good enough?

Recently, we borrowed a Canon Tripod Stand from a fren. Was thinking of investing in 1 simple tripod stand. Purpose is just to support my Nikon Digital Camera & to take videos that's all.
Any recommendation or anyone going to sell off their basic stand.
PS: Mini-tripod is not what I'm looking for :)

Tripods are never easily levelled, even with built in bubbles. The correct method is to level the camera with adjustments done to the tripod head.

leveling bases?

Manfrotto 190XPROB + 486RC2 ballhead

Got the exact same tripod and head like J-Chan :)

Finally I can vote for this thread now....:sweatsm:

Last week got my Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 with 488RC2 Ball Head...
The weight of the tripod is light and steady too.

For the ball head is a bit heavy but have 2 way adjustment.
I find is very useful is you going to shot Pana pix.

Overall, The tripod setup with ball head and put on my 450D is stand very firm and solid...

You'll be even poorer when they topple with your equipment on top...

wad is ur max budget for complete set? ever looked into 2nd-hand 1s? assuming u know how to identify flaws...

I just picked up a Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 + 488 RC2 head too. $420 + $140 = $560. So I guess I'll have to vote Manfrotto now too.:)

Would you recommend the 190 tripod in aluminium?
Since i will only be using in Singapore, so the weight is not an issue, as I dun intend to travel with massive gear.

What you guys think?

Well... in my opinion, Manfrotto already make great tripods, so I have no concerns for their reliability. The criteria I had in mind when I chose the 190CXPRO3 were:

- Weight, but this is a non-issue for you
- Bearable load
- Horizontal column (do you need this?)
- Maximum height without extending the center column

So, if the tripod height works for you (I have to stoop a little for my CXPRO3 unless I extend the column) and since you don't mind the weight, go for it. :)
