Here's what I hate about tripods;

>> when I bring one along, I find I don't need it or use it much
>> when I DID NOT bring one along, I find I need it a lot

Sometimes, for those occasions when I don't really need to bring one, I should get a cheap lightweight one & just carry along... the old Manfrotto is too heavy after a while... sometimes it topples over and hits my foot or worse... my friggin ankle!!!

To me, it's a love hate relatioship with tripods... ;(

Hahaha:bsmilie:

I hate setting up tripod. Takes too bloody long....

Have you tried a gorillapod? Think it can handle heavier setup? Expensive though....

NIKON,because freebies from my DSLR:bsmilie:

Just bought a Benro A500 together with Manfrotto 488RC2 ballhead.

I think this is good enough for my usage i.e. night shots, landscapes, macro. My camera equipment is not too heavy for this tripod.

Also have an old Slik pan head which i also use for holding my flash unit for off-flash macro shots

hi all,
i need help in choosing a tripod.

ok, i've tried holding on the manfrotto 190B and the manfrotto 2 way panning ball head. Man! It is heavy DUDE! I dun think i can carry that with me all the time when i'm back-packing and walking for hrs on the street.

So, i am looking for a tripod and ballhead that is light and can hold my canon 40D and 70-200mm IS L-lens. My budget is only max S$600 to S$700.

Any recommendations pls?

Thanks!

Check out Benro carbon fibre tripods. I think it's probably the only brand which can meet your budget and weight constrains.

You're not wrong. You'd be just getting what you're paying for. Don't even think about Manfrotto or Gitzo CF pod for under $600. Heads not included yet. I got a Benro CF with head for under $500. Not as sturdy as a Gitzo or Manfrotto CF but good enough for that kind of price and weight. ;p Just have to lower your expectations and things will be in the right perspective.

hi guys
any tripod small enough to be "wrap" over by the cover of a 7 million dollar home?

Yes... but it won't be sturdy enough for a DSLR with a f2.8 lens.

managed to get Velbon Ultra Maxi L yesterday
pretty stable for 450d with f2.8 lens
height wise.. slightly on the short side though

Manfrotto Tripod
RRS ballhead
RRS L-plates

Are there any tripods that level very easily?
Like the Gitzo Leveling series, but more economically friendly

Tripods are never easily levelled, even with built in bubbles. The correct method is to level the camera with adjustments done to the tripod head.

Beside CP ... where can i get Manfrotto ... tks.

manfrotto seems more stable and heavier than silk :)

Understand the tripod mentioned here are all high end ones. I am a beginner, so am not prepared to spend so much on it (cause I am poor too, lol). So is those carre four cheapo tripod good enough?

Some "Fancier" branded tripod. Not exactly the best or sturdiest thing but got it only at $100, sports a pretty decent ballhead, that soft / sponge thingy on the legs and also quick release clamp to go real low angle - I don't know the exact term but... yeah, you can bring this down real low, it's light and... bottom-line... does its job.

If you need sturdy support, the tripod is juat as, if not more important than your camera and lenses. If you can spend a considerable amount of money on camera and lenses, I don't see much point in buying chopsticks from Carrefour to support them. If you know your tripods, its more than just buying any 3 legged stand to hold your camera.
