I got a shock when I saw the number of pages balloon since I last visited but was disappointed find out that it was bloated by 2 chaps would decided to do some verbal sparring in this thread. Let's keep this to tripods huh?!

BTW, Syncmaster the 141RC is 1kg?!! 2.7kg for the total setup?!!! That is really heavy!!! BTW, ckiang, how heavy is your set - 190B + 352RC?

TME the all story with the tripods is really simple , if the tripod is not like 2.7Kg , is not a sturdy one .
Its not the weight , its the all construction , i have see in the local shops more than 20 tripods , like the Slik - Verbon - and many others , the only one that it does not move no matter what is the damn Manfrotto 190D (B), my final verdict is that this is the most rock sturdy + good price + light weight high quality tripod , i have found people that they own it for 10 years now , and they are still happy with it ..
I have got one Email from one Greek guy that he haves it , and he said that he had fall with his motorcycle more than 2 times in some accidents ,and he was have and the tripod with him , even if the tripod had crashed in the ground with him , the tripod has only some scratches , but it never broke or damaged ... I can not think many tripods that they can survive easily from crash tests, like this :-)

I am sorry if i sound like to be as a crazy fool about this Manfrotto tripod , but becauce of all the above and the high class of it , it had earned my highest respect ..

Yes, if you ever used a 190 with 141RC. You'll be impressed by its stability. For marco, you'll only have the movement from the subject to worry. Anyway, it is lighter than the weight of a loaded M16 mounted with a grenade launcher. If you own a 190, you wouldn't go back to silk, unless you are too weak to Bag it around.

Around 2kg. ~1.5kg for the 190 Pro B, 500g for the 352RC. :)

Ballheads and 3 way heads are built to do different thing. Fair enough if weight is your concern but I advice you to get a head that really suit your needs. If oyu need a 3 way head then obviously, a ballhead is a compromise.

I'm an amateur lah! Talking about need is a bit rich cos it's more like a hobby loh! I am after a highly flexible system. Guess the 3-way is more troublesome to adjust but gives greater flexibility for adjustment whereas the ballhead adjust faster but has some limitations in terms of movement. Still have to go down and stick the camera on top to see what I like.

Aiyoh!! I thought of that too!! :D U sponsor I buy loh!! :D

Come on man !!!
Were did you find the money for the camera ?? Did you rob a bank ..

Frankly I don't see why you need a 3 way head unless you are particular about your "shot to shot composition" like when you need a series of shots to stitch into a panorama. I personally feel a 3 way head is only good for static objects.

'

That's it bud! I usually use the tripod to shoot still objects. family potraits, potraits of individuals and the odd scenery around. Wan to attempt night shots when I have more time in 2 weeks itme! :D No action shots from tripod though. :)

I will agree with the TME and i will add landscapes ,and how much one good tripod helps to compose the scene , plus macro photography , plus sunsets and moon shots ..

And especially the Manfrotto 190D does all of the above , simple because the legs of it they have three spreading levels ,and not one like the most others , plus that the middle pipe , it turns up side down ..

The tripod is one tool , and depending on the design and quality , increases the usability of it , and the only limit is the imagination of the photographer .

Yes i will agree that not every one needs the total perfect tripod , but at the end , we all need it even if we do not believe it so .

For instance , how many times we have buy one bag for our camera ,and then we get some extra accessories ,and the bag is not good enough and we buy a second .
By the same way , any one will regret , if he get out for some landscape pictures and there is one sunny but windy day .
The camera it will dance with the tripod, and at that time you will start wishing to had one more sturdy and heavy tripod , than the cheapo one with the plastic head .

The tripod is not just one base for the camera , the tripod is a helper and protector of your camera .
Question : will you give your camera to one 6 years old child ? NO … Why ? because the is the risk that the child will drop down the camera ..
Ok what you will say if your camera drop down with the tripod ,because of some wind or because one dog touch it , or because you had touch it, but with out your hands .

The meaning of the above story is , that if you like to have one tripod just take one of the best , or do not take any at all .

And about the heads , I will say that the 2 or 3 axis heads is the most popular solutions ,with the top usability ..

Be more serious in using the required tools
The tripod is as important if not more
important than the camera in photography.

The more serious you are in pursuing photography
either as a hobby or as a profession, the more serious
you are in paying attention in getting a sturdy and
versatile tripod.

The tripod is one of the most essential tool but sad to say
many beginners are ignorant about its importance.

On a regular Sunday a visit to the Botancial Garden will soon
allow you to witness many photography enthusiasts
carrying good decent cameras but more often than not,
a filmy non sturdy tripod. What a contrast?

It was more fortunate for me to have proper guidance
when I started out in learning photography.
For those who are not fortunate enough to have good
advice, will often land themselves with a three legged
tripod without sufficient height and a plastic quick release plate
that could not hold the camera in place when used in a tilting
position.

Many of my photography buddies started out with just a
simple student tripod viz the Manfrotto 055C or the 055PRO
but soon landed themselves with a carbon fibre unit either
from Gitzo or Manfrotto. I think this is for real when one has
sufficient knowledge about the importance of tripod usage.

The Benbo Trekker or the Manfrotto 190 PRO will be ideal for
those who travel often. Unfortunately these two models do
not have sufficient height for regular outdoor shooting.
If you are tall (5’ 7”) and above, the Manfrotto 475b with
the #229 head can be a good starter kit. At least you know
you don’t have to change tripod for the next couple of years.

It is often a misleading act to advice beginners
that because of their small body size, they should not use
the more heavier tripod.

Often, the misleaded ingnorant beginners
will have to buy another better and more sturdier
tripod in no time.
They felt that they have to pay for their ignorant.

At first glance it appears impossible to love

the camera you bought and yet don’t love the

exactly what I am trying to say: we must
use the required tools to get the task done.

The difference is just in height and I can live with it. Of course if the price is not much difference then I might consider it too. Afterall the 190 is versatile and sturdy enough.
