50mm f/1.2

Hi

Can I know is there any difference in bokeh and sharpness between Nikon 55mm f1.2 AI and the 50mm f1.2 AIS?
I know one has 7 and the other 9 blades.

Thanks.

nice shots! got that lens too and got to start using it more. beginning to get used to the 24mm angle :)
thanks! it has a very distinctive look wide open in high contrast situations. hard to get right but special when it is. dont forget to post some of your shots too!

That's a fantastic shot of the Louvre! Brings back memories from our trip last year :)
I brought along Tokina 11-16mm on that trip. Though it's a sharp lens, it did produce a noticeable distortion on landscape shots.
thank you =)

WOW!!! very N I C E !!!
thank you!

They're both completely different lenses. i ve never used the 55 on FX before, but based on DX performance i d say the 55 is softer but with more 'retro' bokeh. mine also had the propensity to flare, had more field curvature and more coma at the edges. the 50 1.2 tends to be give a more 'defined' look to the images, but supposed to have 'worse' (i think more modern looking) out of focus rendition. the 50 1.2 has a ton of coma at 1.2 and infinity though.

anw, here's one from the 5.8cm 1.4 @ 1.4; first time i shot properly with it on FX. its v low contrast wide open so difficult to focus, but you can see the distinctive 'retro' look.

Thanks Ben, think I prefer the more modern look. Will try and get "clearance" for the 50mm f1.2 AIS, preferably new piece :P

I do too actually, it has a certain crisp to the infocus areas. i want one new in box too, but they re crazy expensive; only available on a by order basis from nikon. i think few ppl really use the 50 1.2 so you can get mint condition pieces really easily. mine was like mint till i fell down in the rain one day ><

Took these with Ais 105mm F2.5 on the 1st day of new year. Except for the image with child's hair where I manipulated exposure on LR4, all images are jpeg straight from my D7000.

I can't find a new piece at the moment....

Why must be new? My 50mm f1.2 AI is over 30+ years old still in tip top condition. :bsmilie:

I know it has good built quality....it's the price some sellers are asking which is too near the price for a brand new one, I might get it online from shashinki or wait for TK to have stock.

Mine was mint from matsuiyastore, box and all. Don't think it really matters much, right after I put it on my cam, went everywhere with it lol

Hi all, I've also recently taken the plunge into manual beginning with the 50mm Ultron and more recently the 50mm 1.2 ais n 28mm 2.8 crc ais Nikkors and loving it. Strangely I prefer the rendition to my clinical nano lenses. Pls keep posting your incredible images to continually inspire me. Cheers!

Errr always wanted to try manual lens.... How easy is it to focus using D700... In focus will it beep or something... :-)

U guys use mainly wide angle or Potraits lens? Think if i wanna try, will try wide angle lens, can slowly slowly focus... Heeee

I have 50mm f1.2 AI & 16mm f2.8 AIS fisheye.
The wide angle lens, wider than 28mm,normally no need focusing, put the focus ring on infinity,it will 95% OK,unless you are close potraiting.

Look for (5). When in focus, the center dot will appear. If not, the two arrows on the left and right will guide you to focus correctly, provided that your focus point is on object.

Thank Bro for the advise..... very itchy wanna try a manual Portrait lens... just not confident enough... btw which is a "better" manual Portrait lens?Sorri, really no knowledge of it.... The AFD105 f/2 or the AFD135 f2 is good... but price also super good..... sigh... so haver to look for "cheaper and better" alternative...

Cheaper, definitely, better, not so sure, never used these DC lenses. But good! Very good! I vouch for AiS 105mm f/2.5. I have 3 of these 105's, 2 of them non-Ai (bought to admire in the dry box).

Some say 85mm f/2 also good, 85mm f/1.4 and 105mm f/1.8 even better. But 85mm f/2 harder to find (i.e. not so popular when available new, in other words, probably not as good), the other 2 price also super good.

BnS $250-$350 for a decent 105mm f/2.5 depending on conditions.
