We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses!

anyway, here's afew more to share. 5.8cm f/1.4 both @ f2

looks like its my new favourite lens! managed to modify it to ai without damaging the lens too.

Hi Ben,

I replied to your post in the alternate lenses thread just before this, but since that thread's quite old I thought I'd post here as well.

I've been thoroughly poisoned by the nikkor 5.8cm and I'm looking to get one to use on my D90, with view of moving to full frame. (waiting for the D700 replacement so the D700 price drops further)

Do you know if the lens will mount on a D90, and does it meter on your D700? You mentioned modifying the lens; did you do it yourself or did you have to send it some place?

Cheers!

Hi!

it will mount on the d90 with some modification. the modification is totally reversible, its basically moving the aperture ring further to the front of the lens. you can then add a little tab so it ll give full metering with the Dx00 and Dx range of cameras. Its a simple mod and got it done myself and would gladly help you if you need it done. if i recall correctly, the corner shop at excelsior has a copy for sale, not sure if its still available though.

its quite a charming lens, very nice for portraits but the low contrast does get in the way sometimes. i wouldnt mind meeting up and letting you try it out either. let me know.

thanks for the information, and the offer. the swirly bokeh is charming, and i'm a fan of the 'lo-fi' look so the contrast might actually suit my needs. by corner shop at excelsior do you mean chiif cameras?

i think its the SG lens shop.. not sure of the exact name tho. next to the car park entrance, quite a new shop.

i'm still figuring out if i miss the 35 f1.4 ais. perhaps i'm still figuring out the 50 focal length.

Hi MF Folks

Any 24mm f2 or 35mm f1.4 AIS images to share?

Thanks

it has been a while check i read this thread. looking at some nice photos produced by nikkor manual lens makes me feel like getting one to add to my collection also haha.

Adding another shot with the old lightweight AIS 600mm f5.6 ( with a 1.4TC ). Saved my back from several hrs long hikes and uphill climbs in iceland. Pretty much right out of the camera save the bit of watermark.

Face to the sun.In Dx,it is a wide-angle,not fish-eye.

A followup with the trusty Nikon AIS 600mm f5.6 with 1.4 TC

That's still 2.7kg to lug around... yikes
Handheld? Is it even possible?

My load was in excess of 12kg excluding food and water and tripod.
Not handheld, but tripod mounted.

That would have been a pretty sturdy tripod + ballhead combo, none of that travel tripod stuff
Gimbal head?
I think I'll die trekking with 12kg on me, guess all that running was good prep :)
