Wait for D800 or buy D700 now

Actually, the moment I saw them controlling the D4 thr mobile devices, I feel it will attract a lot of geeks (rich ones of cos) wanna piece of action with this thing. It's like a geek magnet for they can say, "hey, I can control my camera across the room with my iPad, can you?" :P

My guts feel tells me that local camera rental will likely stock this camera along with the wireless WT5A unit to satisfy this market. :)

If you have not used the current tethering or wireless transmission features in the current bodies and the WT-4, you will never understand the pain, and why the WT5 and the D4 looked so damn good. And remote control? a lot of people use it and have a need for it, especially when shooting animals or sports or races with a multiple remote camera set up. It is afterall, a camera body built for the professional community, not the average joe the hobbyist.

Yup D700 is gonna step into history and make way for D800, but don knw if D800 can out perform D700 in terms of iso. lets wait and see ba.
but owning a D700 is a no regret.

the web address says it all
www.nikon-image.com/products/discontinue/camera/

If it cannot, it would be a laughing stock for Nikon. So far, there isn't any Nikon DSLR that underperform in the ISO department that each model replaces (sisters & update models excluded, but of cos D3s trumps D3).

already almost a year have passed.... you can almost see light at the end of the tunnel....
I think at the back of many people mind are, what is street price of this D800 will be?

if d800 comes out, how much will be the d700 cost? any idea?

I struggled with this same question about a year and half ago. I decided, heck it, get D700 first. No regrets.

Struggle a few months more and you will get over it and move on to between D900 and D800

The specs of the D800 puts it in a more clearly defined segment of demand - those who need really high res and HD video. It will not be a clear-cut choice for the D700 market to move to the D800 because it is potentially more cumbersome (FPS and ISO-wise) and puts far greater demand on storage and card speeds with such huge RAW files. The consumer is now forced to choose between a fast camera in the D4 or the D800 that can create images that can plaster a whole wall...

...or move to a Nikon 1.

Hard to say. Since this is a model realignment. Not just a simple replacement.

Even if ISO is ok. you will have to contend with very large file sizes, and faster machine with more memory to PP them. And pray the camera comes out before CS6 or LR4, if not, you will be forced to get new versions of the software to support the new NEFs.

And don't forget.. your 16GB CF cards can probably only shoot 300+ pics on the D800...

now I am stuck between waiting or purchasing the D700 now. will the prices only go down after announcement of D800? lowest price i've found locally is still 3050.
honestly I don't need 36mp. apart from video, what other upgrades make the D800 worth the $1k more?

Alamak... have to wait till the D800 actually comes out then can say right? Right now, just guessing and rumours.

Anyway, you really cannot wait 1 week meh?

Serious, are u anticipating floods? Once announced, they will appear within a month after the official launch date (note that I meant launch, not announced date)

Correct lar Bro... the thing is, it is not even Announce.... let along launch.... so by the time they Announce... drag, drag, drag, drag.... then launch, then go HKG, China whatever and finally Singapore.... we are lucky if we can get it first half of the year...

My estimate two month , similar to D4 planning of first delivery .

I hope so too...... waiting for the longest time for D700 to drop to more earthly price..... but then with D800 and its "new and latest features".... wait some more lor.... cannot afford anyway... just sit here and drool.... lucky still got D700 + 0 to sayang first...:devil:

Funny thing is, I'd save long enough for the D700, it doesn't pains me to wait for the arrival of D800. Looking at the specs wise, even the D4 comes under my consideration (with a lot of repercussion that is....)
