have anyone drive pass the flyover beside vivocity? I drove pass during pass midnight & I find the night scene of the vivocity building quite nice... haven't got a chance to stop at the left shoulder to take a shot...

Looks like it require a E330 LiveView in action.

Henri Cartier Bresson didn't have Live View during this time... (but I have.. nyuk nyuk!;p )

Also, doesn't anybody use a P&S anymore?

HCB didn't have live view, image stabilisation, autofocus, photoshop. it's a wonder how he even managed to produce any photos at all.

Just by being there and capturing the passing moment you're already 99% done with a photo. Well, I'm just paraphrasing HCB in another way...

Is there any criteria to submit as professional category or anyone also can submit? Must be a full time career photographer? Cam+lens must be professional? Or how then consider professional? :dunno:

Need to submit both S8R AND CD right?

I've seen the T&C in some other contests (not by Vivocity) state that a professional is someone that derives at least 50% of his/her income from photography.

since their T&C has no definition between the two, just enter in whichever feel comfortable. of course expect more entries in Professional, means lesser chance of winning.

Nope, there would be much less entries in Professional category, but of much higher standard. Smaller quantity, higher quality.

Nope, there would be much less entries in Professional category...

How do you know this will be true?

What is more possible is that the judges' grading criteria for the Pro category is much more strict.

This is also my guess.

But the 1st prize of professional category is puzzling. $10000+Exhibition of personal works fully sponsored by Vivocity. Means they are expecting professional to be someone who is good enough to have exhibition standard personal works ah?

This is of course expected. Professional means you are doing it as a job... getting paid... which means your photos had better be good!!! Or you get sacked and no more professional.

What if it's a wedding photographer (a professional) that won first prize and he only have wedding photos for clients, no personal works? He exhibit his client's wedding photos in Vivo? Not every professional is the arty farty type with artistic photos to exhibit

RED => Added because I am getting weird replies to this post. This should avoid further misunderstandings.

BTW, I am refering to 1st prize of Pro Cat, $10K + exhibition of personal works

Although we are not professinal photographer but I believe those advance or even intermediate level also can come out with a good photo. If you are at the "Right Time", "Right Venue", good luck + basic photography skill, you may also capture a good photo.

Yes, I totally agree that anyone can take great photos if they put effort into it. But can they submit an entry in professional category is the question here :dunno:

I was there yeterday evening.. so many people taking pictures.. a tourist even asked me and my friend how much we charged to take photos and will we send it overseas to him.. haha..

Saturday LAST DAY!!!
to submit.

I ask counter, she said very few people entered PRO cat.
Is it true?

If one thinks he have a very good photo, should he submit in amateur cat and try to beat the rest, or submit pro cat and try to beat the Pros  ? I think even if less submission for pros, trying to outdo them is

Anyway, can I submit A4 size photo?

Let me see.... if your photo can win in AMAtuer cat, very lucky!
Then you blame why I not join Pro Cat then?

But if everyone is frighten to join PRO cat that means there is lesser entry, then more chances.

Of course, there is the student cat to think about..... emmm?
Get your best photo join in Pro.
2nd best , use your wife name join Amatuer
And your 3rd best use your nephew' name.

Sure can get at least one winning, am I right?
