Well, considering Tokina put in extra time to develop/test it (released a few months later than the Tamron), it might perform better.

Just a little bit of OT, was the Tokina 12-24 also released later than the Tamron 11-18?
not sure, but i think the 12-24 was out first... they followed the Nikon 12-24, which was the first ultra wide for APS-C sensor.

Well, if the review can claim that Tokina is as good as OEM, then is another story.:bsmilie:

not quite possible with both the nikon and canon 17-55 armed with either USM or SWM and also IS from canon... optically maybe. :bsmilie:

i'd say it would depends on your needs

17mm x 1.5 crop facotr = 25.5mm
16mm x 1.5 crop factor = 24mm

so it would be a 24-75mm zoom f2.8 (with crop factor)
with water resistant coating

i'd still wait and see. as i already have a 17mm prime

anyone know what is the latest selling price? :)
thanks~!

must wait for reviews

Tokina is finding it very easy to make announcement
and very difficult to produce the products

Sounds like its not coming out at all :((

time to move on and get the Tamron 17-50

Not true. 10-17FE and 50-135/2.8 came out already, although I believe the FE was after some delay.

is there moving part on this lens? say the front extending/rotating when zooming?

The nikon mount will be available on 20 March (which is tmr??) while Canon one in April..

From the design. I doubt so. Don't quote me on that... seems to look very similar to the Tamron 17-50 and the Sigma 18-50 in terms of focusing.

I believe the Tokina is probably closer to or a clone of the Pentax 16-50 zoom that was launched recentyly. Tokina is part of the Hoya group that now also owns Pentax. In fact, I learned earlier somewhere that this 16-50mm lens and a few other recent releases are designed jointly with Pentax.

Yeap..i thought so as well. But iirc the Pentax version is weather sealed as well as powered by an internal motor (think hsm). This a video on the K10D and some of the Pentax lenses.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLEFPUGd7o4

Ahh... finally...

Wat!? Filter size 84mm :o
