for me, it is the wt. i remembered once i went on a trip wif my dslr. it was heavy...came back home and bought a PnS cam. ;p

So i think i may go for tamron unless tokina has something that is so good that it pulls me over.

Eh... same leh.

I think for trip or travel, it is so much better to bring a good PnS camera, for that I recommend that you get a good one for daylight which is wide enough and for low low light or even night scene, get one that is good at high ISO, with these 2 PnS it is so much better than carrying DSLR and having a good holiday while at it.

But for local usage I prefer Tokina build not that I am getting this lens just that have tried Tokina, Tamron and Sigma and this line-up also appear in the order of preference at least for me. Will buy Sigma last if absolutely have to.

Even without reviews and sample images, I am willing to bet my $$$ on Tokina. Based on their optical quality and built quality track record, I might want to book it first.

me too, i already own 3 tokina lenses.

based on past records and history, i'll bet it will be good

This the lens I am looking for! Thanks Tokina for developing 16-50mm f2.8!

Since the 16-50 f/2.8 is jointly developed by Tokina and Pentax, you won't be seeing this lens until March 2007 (probably May for Singapore) when Pentax is ready to release their version. As for Tokina having a good track record, I am afraid only their recent offerings of 12-24 f/4 and 100 f/2.8 macro have earned good reviews. But I am sure their 10-17 Fisheye, 16-50 f/2.8 and 50-135 f/2.8 are going to be really good optically.

Is it jointly developed?

According the the Tokina's Japanese website, it is to be launched in late Nov 2006.

yes it is, so is the fisheye zoom

Oh... but the pentax version of the 16-50 has a built-in supersonic motor. Only if the Tokina also has a AF-S or USM version...

i think the co-development only goes as far as the optics

i wish there was HSM as well, but i'd rather a cheaper price

IMO, a zoom in this range doesn't really need the USM/HSM. Not for shooting fast action sports. The screw-driver AF is good enough for most use liao.

Currently, this lens and the Tokina 50-135 has been officially registered in my wishlist...

:)

Been waitin... Still waitin... Shall continue waitin...

any idea when it'll hit our shores?

best to ask CP or conduct an MO from overseas

Surf thru websites but very little information about this lens but I really love the the zoom 16-50mm with F2.8!!!!;p Certainly my next lens!

Let's hope that CP has got sensible pricing, unlike their Manfrotto products! Like the Tk12-24, they charge so high and bundle with loads of trash, which are far from useful.

Or else we got to go for Grey or MO.

yea... same here. I was thinking of getting the 12-24 but the 2.8 and extra 2mm on the wide is too hard to resist. ;p ;p

now I am waiting for reviews

anyone see it please post a link

TIA :)
