Just upgraded to a D90... it is so much better then the D60. The screen and ergonomics are fantastic as a change of settings is just a button away. Noise control is fantastic and ISO is way better (while using an 18-200) than the D60. Was in Japan 2 weeks ago and was surprised when I stepped into the Nikon outlet at Gotemba... a D5000. Swivel screen is cool and movie function is useful. Unless weight and portability (an price) are essential then D5000, else D90.
To buy D90 or D5000-- URGENT!!

What i mean by lesser choice is that when one has limited budget, and needs AF, the AF-S lens are more expensive as compared to the others.
So what i feel is that if one can get a body with built-in motor it will be better.
Well.. thats for me though. No offence.

lets look at it this way.
older kit lenses only has 18-55mm.
D50 - 18-55.
D70- 18-70
d40-18-55
d40x - 18-55vr
d60 - 18-55 vr
d80 - 18-135
d90- 18-105 vr.
with exception of newer bodies , the kit lens comes with a choice of twin combo lens, 18-55 and 55-200vr. most people with budget get 18-55 only but some get the combo.
For basic shooting, those lens are enough to cover for a while.
so having to own a body with no AF motor is no big deal if you go the twin combo way. I started with Fuji S1pro and D50, both with AF motor, and i had my 70-210 cosina and 100-300 tamron, all withouth AFmotor on the lens. these are cheap lens i must say. No offence, but for the student who just enters the DSLR world, the cosina 70-210 cost me $70 2nd hand and it AF's on my camera body. was it worth it to get an AF motor body ? YES . ultimately, i shoot with budget, and the people i show my pics are just ordinary people who doesnt care about MP or noise but about them being able to see themselves in the picture and it looks good.
Alas, it all boils down back to personal preference

50 mm primes are impt!!
where else do u get the creamy bokeh of 50mm f1.8 @ $150!!
lots of lens tokina 12-24,sigma 10-20, dun have internal motor. and to get a nikkon = $$$$ literally 4 digits.
for that Im in desperate need for the motor. less worries when shopping too dun have to ask the shop keeper/seller "eh can this work on my dXX, got motor anot - this makes "me" so noob and higher chance of getting chop"

it's great cam if u dun mind for without bulit in motor.
i will get it for 2nd body, easy use and light weight for travlling.
if it D5000 come with 18-105mm is matching kit lens.

if money not an issue... get the D90, there is an extra screen on top.. very useful... can u opt out of the kit lens if u want to start off with another len... cheers...
Just send out an e-mail to all the shops out there, definitely u can get one. Just be prepared to pay a little more or less freebies.
Just decided to get the D90 today and got it at MS. Ask for a quote, then go collect. No hassle, no waiting.

Agreed....and personally, I don't find swivel LCD on DSLR rather appealing.
U have to down and feel it urself...that's the deciding point.

It is difficult to get the body... The kit however has existing stocks. Maybe there's a lot of people who is opting out of the 18-105 and just upgrading from a previous body.
I heard that new kits that just arrived came with 18-55 instead of the 105 but not really sure, 2nd hand info only.
I'm a noob here...Please enlighten me....
What's built-in commander mode and AF screw?
built-in commander mode is to trigger other flash (if i am not wrong) and AF screw is for those lens that does not have built-in AF motor to AF.
